It's the End of Civilization as we know it. A mutagenic plague followed by a global war fought with disintegration weaponry has left much of the Earth a desert of fine powder and what remains of humanity fragmented into humans, animal-like mutants and bloodthirsty monstrosities with lots of teeth. The surface, still teeming with the mutagenic virus, has become the domain of the dreaded Topsiders; well-organized, technologically advanced, and heavily armed un-mutated humans sworn to exterminate mutations of any kind in order to clear the way for the eventual resurgence of a new, genetically clean humanity. Faced with annihilation, mutants and "impure" humans have retreated into the depths of the planet to form communities and hope to win, or at least survive, what may prove to be mankind's final war. Endtown is the continuing story of one of those communities.

They’re human inside! Just ignore outward shape
And the odd aspects like eggs and milk
We’ve a standoff (perhaps, though the distance does gape)
Between Allgood’s and Jackrabbits’ ilk.
What we have in our faces is Wally and rats
And the folks wrapped in Linda’s kind deed
But I think that behind the scenes lie the real spats
And these conflicts are big ones indeed.

I just spent the whole day going over all the story I had missed. I only became a member in July of 2011. What a wonderful trip. I intend to take that walk through the past often. Shame I couldn’t make comments on the previous bits of this story. I would have had SO much fun!!!
Well Wally is into a hassle again. I just saw him through the fight with the Tsrs, Allie, a catniped cat, Holly, the Doctor, and now THE rats. I am sure he is taking the worse of it.
I agree with Serfstuff55 that there is a new member being delivered. I recognize the “attitude” of the body?
My first experience as a student nurse was to watch the MD trying to give the poor lady a coddle for pain when I kept trying from my position at the base of the bed to tell him the baby was already born. He FINALLY heard me in time to catch the lovely little boy. I was not allowed to touch, or I would have. Sigh.

Not really sure what the doctor is patterned after either.A bear? an angry bear? some mutations the person doesn’t even know what they are. half goat half pig? a squirrel the size of a german shepherd?
