It's the End of Civilization as we know it. A mutagenic plague followed by a global war fought with disintegration weaponry has left much of the Earth a desert of fine powder and what remains of humanity fragmented into humans, animal-like mutants and bloodthirsty monstrosities with lots of teeth. The surface, still teeming with the mutagenic virus, has become the domain of the dreaded Topsiders; well-organized, technologically advanced, and heavily armed un-mutated humans sworn to exterminate mutations of any kind in order to clear the way for the eventual resurgence of a new, genetically clean humanity. Faced with annihilation, mutants and "impure" humans have retreated into the depths of the planet to form communities and hope to win, or at least survive, what may prove to be mankind's final war. Endtown is the continuing story of one of those communities.

Kind of like having a friend who is a drug addict.

Kinda blunt, there Doc. But I guess that’s pretty much like it has to be.

Linda has to do this on her own. At least Maude will be a sympathetic observer.

So a familiar face makes an appearance in Linda’s story…

The return of Doc’s well-known face
Brings a certain “been there” to the place
Doc’s advice is quite tough
But Maude’s making if rough
Since the patient’s right there in this case
Maude’s just helped Linda K back to bed
Then calls Doc. If she’s heard what was said
Of how she was attacked
And might be somewhat whacked
It might worsen the flaw in her head
Of course there’ll be a time to be frank
And discussions will then be point-blank
But she’s now in such pain
That there’s little to gain
And she won’t be inclined much to thank

Depression is actually not understood by most persons unless you have it. Popping pills is not a cure. But someone with depression who wishes to live a fairly normal life does appreciate pills. People who donate their bodies to medical science are appreciated because of the opportunity to discover and examine the brain functions, chemicals, blood activity and if they are lucky someone who has not gone to off the street relief from constant or bipolar depression. I know. I know. And my body is donated to UCDavis Medical for the “baby doctors” to do what ever they wish. I even have plans to use a black marker to point out areas that should be of greater interest. And to warn them on the area that they will find moths. Snork!!!!

Doc: “Dammit Maude, I’m a GP, not a therapist!”

Enough of the preaching. It is likely as common as the doctor says. You live or you don’t live.

Ok, this was the comic that made me sign up for this. Well done Aaron for that. :P
With that, I do have to say the reason why I joined is because there is just something about the Doc that makes me think of Doctor Sherman Cottle from Battlestar Galactica.
It might be the look, or it might be that world view of “You want a Doctor who cares? Then go back to before the end of the world”. Or the fact he is using this to mask his true feelings towards those he treats. Regardless, it is good to see that Doctor Sherman Cottle has kept himself well over these last few (thousand) years. :P

While most of the people I knew that got into drugs (marijuana was legal when I was in high school. Oregon from 1973 to 1997) survived, they were never the same again. What an incredible waste of human potential!

You all know Maude isnt going to just sit back and watch. Possibly use her own brand of therapy. (No pun intended)

So … it’s essentially the Republican health care plan.

So now we have Maude’s last name. Hefner…Heifer? Sh isn’t one of Jake Jackrabbits group, is she?
(Okay, She’s too nice to be one of those, but the name is similar to the breed.)

@LizardPriest
No it isn’t. She was given a place to live and somehwere to eat. She would have been left naked and starving on a street corner after only three days of “orientation”, if that long.

Umm, what is the doctor there for? Stitching up wounds?
Or treating the near-terminal cases of flatulence due to the prevailing diet?
Surely some pharmacies survived up there, along with all the cans of beans..
