It's the End of Civilization as we know it. A mutagenic plague followed by a global war fought with disintegration weaponry has left much of the Earth a desert of fine powder and what remains of humanity fragmented into humans, animal-like mutants and bloodthirsty monstrosities with lots of teeth. The surface, still teeming with the mutagenic virus, has become the domain of the dreaded Topsiders; well-organized, technologically advanced, and heavily armed un-mutated humans sworn to exterminate mutations of any kind in order to clear the way for the eventual resurgence of a new, genetically clean humanity. Faced with annihilation, mutants and "impure" humans have retreated into the depths of the planet to form communities and hope to win, or at least survive, what may prove to be mankind's final war. Endtown is the continuing story of one of those communities.

Will we get a history of Petey’s adventures too?
Blessed Be.

Petey’s not “stoked” by Blackie’s provender
She can do “killer” but struggles with “tender”
There’s still a missing bit from her old flame
We haven’t seen how he gave her that name
“Fate” and “sick humor” our Blackie might find
Is simply what’s likely to those of sick mind
It’s hard to blame her; that history’s tough
But somehow, someday, she’ll have killed quite enough

Maybe now she can cry for someone besides herself.

Petey: “You’re my long lost… what…? Naw, I don’t think so. I’m not into cats. Besides, I already have a life-partner.”

@ 3 Steps My life partner is a 9V battery (well at least for a year). I change it same time as smoke detectors.

Y’know, I’ve never seen this version of Petey smile. A couple of times, right after Mallard put him in this, er, whimsical robot body, he seemed about to break into a smile in dialog, but, lately, no. (Not that there’s been much to smile about, but Wally and Holly managed to smile here and there.)
The transporter version of Petey seemed happy-go-lucky enough to crack a smile once in a while—-but he didn’t have a working face to do it with…

Oh man! So all Flask had with her man was that very short reprieve, after all. I too wonder how she got her nickname. This might be a silly guess, but it came to me last night – maybe Blackie is for “Black Sheep,” since at one point Flask was a black sheep of the Topsiders in her disagreement with some of their practices and willingness to turn into a mutant for Petey2b?

And wow. Petey looks so disgusted in the last panel, especially juxtaposed with Flask trying to be tender with him in the third panel. ;3; Rejection.

“Wally and Holly managed to smile here and there”
Wally and Holly had certain, ah, distractions to help them through the tough times…

Petey: “You know, I do still have one memory, one very vague one. There was this woman. She was in a Topsider suit. And she came to visit me when I was tied up in some room. And then, and then, there was a lot of pain and suffering! That was you ripping me open, wasn’t it!”

According to Flask’s recollection, “He” had never seen Flask after her change. So, how would Petey have recognised her? In my mind I hear Flask’s voice with a “meowing” catlike quality…although her voice could be more influnced by one of the big cat types (cougar, lioness). In any case, her voice would have changed too. So how would Petey recognise her? Also, before we saw Flask’s story, I’d considered that Flask’s recollection of her love affair was mostly a product of her obsessive personality. Back then I’d thought it was another Topsider she’d stalked. Now it seems that she loved a mutation-immune Freebeing. But was what we saw what really happened? If Petey ever gets his memory back, and we see its contents, he might have a different explanation.

How was PT2B a “hero?” Admittedly, I can’t recall a lot of things these days, including anything he did that could be construed as heroic while he was with Flask. SHE rescued HIM, remember, and he was gone without a trace (or explanation) when she woke up. John Wayne, he wasn’t , although the currrent incarnation of Petey HAS done some pretty brave things.
