    So Holly’s attention will wander
And she spots a face in the sand
    It’s bear-like, not monster — we ponder
Just what that new player has planned

But Petey’s not tied-in to Blackie
As close as I’d previously assumed
Not “friend” it seems. No, more like “lackey”
But that story still must be exhumed…

    IT’S A TRAP

Would that bear be the token “toy showing the futility of otherwise total annihilation”?
There’s always a teddy bear or childs doll that survives – so famously so they made Starbug of the same stuff….

It looks like it might be a Mutt.

    @Arcaton

The entire section of Hillside that Sparkplug lived in was proof against total annihilation… No, the toy here is something else entirely… a TRAP! No, wait, PhycoKrusk said that already. No, it’s just a cigar. A MUTT-shaped cigar.

The resolution on your monitor must be better than mine. I didn’t recognize it as a bear until you said so. Then I had to blow it up to see it better.

I guess that I am blind to the teddy bear?? The only thing I see that resembles a bear is Peteys hands clasped behind his back???

Yeah, in the last panel, Holly’s looking at it half-buried in the sand.

Either its a trap OR…its going to involve something to do with children. Either someone wanting some or someone who had some before the trouble hit.

Could be what’s left of Petey.

Aaron, once again your artwork is not done justice by GoComics. We are losing details of your fine drawings. I also thought Holly was looking at a rock until I zoomed way in (multiple cntrl +) after reading Level_Head’s comment. I use a high-res 24" monitor and could only tell it was a very fuzzy teddy bear at extreme zoom. This is the same issue we have when there are stars in the night scenes—they just tend to disappear. Can GoComics give you a larger panel size?

Or at least turn on the zoom function in the corner linked to a higher rez.

That is a teddy bear in the fine grains of organic debris. The W-rays only destroyed organics. I’m not surprised that Blackie is hiding something. It would be out of her character to be forthcoming so readily.

Petey may have not been Blackie’s love life. She may be attached to him for different reasons, like say, if Petey was like a little brother that she happened to be extremely fond of, or a comrade in war, although the little brother would make her more attached than if Petey was just a comrade.
