Marty Links was the creator of the comic strip “Emmy Lou” which ran in newspapers all over the world for over 35 years. Marty Links was a pioneer-- a woman cartoonist at a time when the cartoon business was really a boy’s club. For over 40 years, Marty would whisk through the San Francisco Chronicle city room delivering a weekly batch of cartoons with the same gusto as Emmy Lou would.

Aargh! The dreaded baby pictures!
Is that a beard Alvin is sporting along with his long hair and sideburns, or is it just the ribbed neck of his shirt? Inquiring minds want to know…

That’s a strip late in the run – I often wondered why Marty ended the strip – it was still funny.

A) That’s his turtleneck-check the cuff.
B) That’s called Blackmail: be good or we’ll show your baby pix to your date! Alvin’s Mom just wasted a good behaviour ticket!
