Marty Links was the creator of the comic strip “Emmy Lou” which ran in newspapers all over the world for over 35 years. Marty Links was a pioneer-- a woman cartoonist at a time when the cartoon business was really a boy’s club. For over 40 years, Marty would whisk through the San Francisco Chronicle city room delivering a weekly batch of cartoons with the same gusto as Emmy Lou would.

What year was this from?
Today you see Paul Newman’s name on Newman’s Own grocery products.

Paul Newman remains my all-time favorite actor. Not only have I enjoyed his films, but the fact that he never cheated on his decades-long marriage says a lot about his character. At this very moment, my netflix queue includes several of his movies, which I look forward to seeing again.

Newman’s daughter Nell initiated and runs the food company.

1970 it is! So was yesterday’s. I think some of the original cartoons weren’t “dated” before they were sent to United Features in that day. Marty had a crush on Paul Newman. She used him a lot in her cartoon. Not a bad guy to have a crush on!

Too bad that Paul didn’t meet Emmy Lou. Alvin would have been jealous.

This is fun nostalgia, I grew up during this time. Finished elementary then into HS through the 1970’s and graduated in the bicentennial year of 1976.
