Every day is “Casual Friday” for Dude and Dude. Follow the antics of two carefree dudes looking to make their mark on the world with as little effort as possible. Dude and Dude, the stars of the comic strip, are two young twenty-something’s created by award winning cartoonist Keith Poletiek. Follow along as Keith exposes the mellow, and at times, ambiguous approach to life of these two beach dwellers who live life on their own terms – including such lofty goals as kicking back, generating their own schedules, making friends and, hopefully, scratching up just enough fundage to maintain their own pad, score some wheels, impress some chicks and have enough change left over for as many fish tacos as they can handle…which is a lot!

It’s always amusing to hear different peoples interpretation of things, they often get it totally wrong or disturbingly correct.

As an illustrator/cartoonist/writer myself, the message I intend is not always the one received. I used to get mildly uppity “NO, NO, NO! Captain Tightpants does NOT represent the misogyny found in the nabisco cookie company!” But I eventually came to realize that they where correct, what ever message they receive is the correct one for them. American Pie by Don Mclean is supposede to be about Buddy Holly, but everytime I hear it it embodies the whole of the 60’s; Kenndeys assisination (the King and Queen) all of the riots (the flames climbed high into the night) the campus unrest (the marching band refused to yield) Buddy Holly may be what Don intended, but the images that flash through my mind are the psychadelic sixties.
Nuff rantings for the nonce……Mellow high five…nah too much trouble for this strip, just gimme a brownie.

American Pie gives me gas.
I don’t know why but the first time I heard it to today I turn off the radio. And I’m a huge B.H. fan. Maybe ‘cause Sabbath and Hendrix were on my Ipod in the late 60’s.

DUDE a time traveller, next time you go back to the 60’s with your Ipod, look me up and drop a copy of sports and business history on me.

Two thoughts. First, “sometimes a cigar is just a cigar” Sigmund Frued.
Second, a college prof once shared the story of being on a witers panel with Joe Heller shorty after Catch 22 was a mega hit. It was after lunch and mr Heller had drunk his, when this other college professor stood up and went into a long detailed explaination of all of the meaning and symbolish in the book. When he was done he awaited Hellers praise. Instead Heller fixed him with a gimlet stare and asked," Do you really believe all of that B5@^7(++T?
