Boogie boarding off the back of a fishing boat is more like it.

I concur. Surfing is about balance. Missing body parts will affect that seriously.

Dudes, think about this, go out once to observe before you put any of your body parts on the line.

This comin’ from 8 fingered Arnie.
I have a glove I use while carving wood to protect from slicing my finger off. I always put it on right after I apply a band-aid to a cut.

Friend of mine used to roof. Seems that, if it wasn’t standard practice on the crew, it was standard practice for one guy to keep his finger on the trigger of the nail gun so all he had to do was bounce the tip against the roof to drive a nail. (You can probably guess where this is going.) He was climbing down a ladder one day — finger on the trigger — when he missed a rung. Nail gun bounced off his bent leg and shot a nail through the femur and into the tibia, closed the knee joint right up. And these were glued nails, where the glue was activated by the heat of friction. A most delicate operation, getting him off that ladder. I understand the hospital straightened him out; but it wasn’t pretty.
