Ryan and Willard intend to kill Medicare. They are exempting those over 55 in the hope that they will be appeased enough to vote for them.
    -
Those over 55 are frightened by the prospect of no Medicare and hope that by feeding the under 55s to the alligator, they will be eaten last.

BREENA: I wanted to make sure you saw my reply to your comment 2 toons back, so I’m going to re-post my reply. I hope others here will forgive me, I know it’s a dead thread. Hopefully BREENA will see this.

BREENA: First of all, I’m not nor have I ever been a Christian. In fact, I’m an atheist. So don’t tell me to “be a good Christian”.

Second of all, abortion (or anti-abortion) isn’t my thing. While I see the moral dilemma in it (I didn’t when I was younger and was prone to “mistakes” [thankfully I never had to put this to a test]), I really couldn’t care less if an expectant mother kills her child. Society (and I) can’t afford to raise it. Maybe I’m guilty of thinking life is cheap. Whatever. If the mother thinks the life of her kid is cheap, it’s no sweat of my back.

Third of all, even though I have my reservations about abortion but don’t care enough to make it an issue, I still get a little squeamish in the 3rd trimester. Especially after looking at sonograms.

This brings up point four: I have no problems at all with abortions due to rape or medical reasons.

So I will clarify and ask you again: You said their should be NO RESTRICTIONS on abortion. And this is the ONLY reason I asked you my original question. So I’ll ask again: Assuming that there are no underlying medical conditions, but the woman simply decides on the day of her delivery that she’s not “ready to have a child” should she be allowed to have an abortion?

Sheneman, as usual, really, really, ACCURATE, and a really good twist on the old fraudulent claims of the Republitoadies. “Articulate” with words is something MItt isn’t too good at, but you have to admit his joints articulate, as he twists into knots trying to keep up with his policy gyrations!

It’s a slippery slope. Suppose a woman in labour says, ‘If you don’t abort this baby, I’ll kill myself!’ Then, if you don’t abort the baby, you are putting the mother’s life in grave risk. So, in order to save the life of the mother, if she demands an abortion, you MUST abort babies, even if the mother is in labour.

The original Supreme Court decision was that abortion was the woman’s choice, but only for the first trimester. After that, states could restrict abortion. Before the Supreme Court’s ‘73 decision, some states allowed abortion and some states did not. After the Supreme Court’s decision, some states restricted abortion after the first trimester and some did not. But in states that allowed abortion of viable foetuses, some anti-abortion activists killed the doctors that performed such abortions, until most clinics that offered abortions of viable foetuses stopped offering such abortions.

Most Americans now agree with the original Supreme Court ruling, that it is strictly the woman’s right to choose for the first trimester. But Americans are sharply divided on late-term abortions where the foetus is viable.

to butt in needlessly: I’d have to say we have the old discussion of freedom versus license. eg, in this Christian nation, we say that an atheist has the freedom to not worship as he pleases, but not the license to burn down churches because he doesn’t like what they preach. The courts have tended to agree with the abortion of early term children, but not the killing of ones brought to full term. Since the child you describe is full term, the court would likely find in its favor. Several cases of young woken who had the child secretly and stuck it in a trash can would tend to support that.

I’m glad you’ve taken a humanistic approach of supporting human life and the idea of the need of limits on freedoms. It’s a bit refreshing to hear an atheist actually talk of life with logic and reason.

Mitt can think on his feet. When O has no teleprompter he falls back on his socialist beliefs and voices them. Mitt would have NEVER told anyone in Russia he would be more flexible after the election. And you libs eat that crap up.

Sorry if I insulted you perhaps I should have said human compassion… however:
I doubt that a woman would carry to the day before her delivery and then just say f..k it, get it out of me. The abortive process is similar to the birthing process at this stage of the game and is no picnic so she would gain nothing by doing that. After a point in time, you might as well have the baby and adopt it out if you don’t want it.
In you previous posting I saw nothing about medical conditions so it appears, and forgive me if I am wrong, that you agree that under “extenuating medical conditions” abortions are okay; but, the Republican platform, as it is now, says NO ABORTIONS FOR ANY REASON.. People have to realize that there are many reasons someone may actually need an abortion and not automatically assume the family is screwed up, a drug addict, it’s inconvenience, or any of the stereotypical reasons people assume is the reason someone elects to have this procedure. It’s a medical procedure that should be available as needed and the Government and Religious fanatics should keep there nose out of it.
My experience is first hand… in the mid to late 7th month of my wife’s first pregnancy the Doctors noticed a reduction in fetus development and a week later could no longer hear the heart beat. A few days later, and after several more tests, told us that we no longer had a viable pregnancy.. i.e. the fetus was dead. At the time, in order to perform an abortion the MOTHER’S life had to be in danger so we had to wait for the dead fetus to start killing Sandra before we could abort the dead fetus. Because religious views over rode common sense and medical knowledge Sandra had to carry our first conceived child for a month knowing it was dead… We wanted that baby; were ready for that baby, could afford that baby, had planed for that baby; however, for some unknown reason it died in the womb and, because of the abortion laws of the time, she HAD to Carry it until it started killing her. A trip to the hospital for a fresh blood test every day for over a month … you have no idea how difficult it is to go through something like this is by it’s self without having to put up with someone else’s opinions, judgments, and religious bias. Once the abortion was performed they would not allow us to view them because they had decomposed so badly in the month she was forced to carry them. After the delivery and over the next few months Sandra had to have several D&Cs to clear her system and protect her life. In addition, there were two fetuses in there. The first set of identical twins in our family’s history AND if we had been aloud to start the abortion at the time they lost heart beat on the first baby the doctors may have been able to save the twin….. I will NEVER support a platform that puts restrictions on this procedure. Unless someone has walked in our shoes … M.Y.O.B! The next several years were the difficult and emotional years in our 47 years of marriage.
On last thought: If some one would have this no abortion policy before this happened there would be one more headstone in the Buckley, Michigan, cemetery reading Sandra Kay XXXXXX, age 24, 1945 – 1969. And next to that would be the one that’s there today indicating Un-named Babies XXXXXX, May1969. And my wife would have died for no other reason than people’s ignorance, stubbornness, and bigotry.
Sorry fo being so long winded.

ONE last thing …. 1.It’s your choice. The life of your beautiful wife or daughter that you love so much versus that of an unborn fetus in distress that may not survive the birthing process… oops, I’m sorry. The Ryan plan says you have no say its thumbs down on the mother…. sorry. Say goodbye and go make funeral arrangements. And don’t tell me MiNT would be the President so it would be his abortion plan that was being followed … remember J.F.K and L.B.J.? Whose agenda do you think was followed there?

Many people issuing opinions on the abortion question, and these include all current lawmakers especially Congressman Todd Akin and our own Michigan GOP, have little to no knowledge of their topic: pregnant women.
Each person is unique. We know that there are more than a hundred potential complications, of varying severity, associated with pregnancy — many not seen until pregnancy occurs. There are also complications that are not due to pregnancy as such, but would prove fatal to both mother and child in the event of one, such as Gaucher’s disease.
What we should look for in lawmakers, then, who have little-to-no knowledge about these medical problems, ought to be their ability to acknowledge they don’t know and ensure that quality care is available to all women, keeping their ignorant ideas out of the pants of individuals they cannot address in the first person.
Anyone who cannot do this should be voted out of office as soon as possible.
