   The sad truth is…Many of these families would make the decision to pull the plug on Grandma themselves if the money was coming out of their own pocket. But since it is the Governments money they feel entitled to spend unencumbered to give Grandma one more day on the ventilator even if the doctors told them she was braindead a long time ago.

   We can’t afford to give these people blank checks and a sense of entitlement to hundreds of thousands of dollars in the last few months of their lives.

   We need reasonable caps on spending, policies that establish criteria for heroic life extending medical care (If the government is paying), and a general understanding by Seniors that all their gimmees come because they are being taken away from others.

   Yes Yes they paid Social Security all those years and I have been maxing out my payments for a decade and will have to continue to do so for another 2 decades but the gravy train has to stop.

    Regretfully Mesphistopholes is right. With the number of us babyboomers becoming seniors, we will bankrupt this nation if something is not done to rein in the expenditures being made. And no I do not have any other insurance.

    A med-tech friend of mine told me a story of resuscitating a terminal cancer patient (unknowing about the cancer). He survived for two more weeks, unconscious, in intensive care. Should this man have ever been put on life support? Your decision.

    Great. first discontinue the insurance care for
    congress, the judicial and the Executive. Then discontinue free vet care since they paid nothing for it.
    Then return all the money paid in by each senior. Let them decide what to do with it.

    THEN you can use words like “gravy train” and “entitlement” without the rest of us using the word “hypocrisy.” And suggesting you are living up to your screen name.

    My 90 year old uncle is very angry. His heart stopped last year. They couldn’t find his DNR, so they resuscitated him. Now he’s back in his garden, pulling weeds, and working off his anger.
