Everybody wants the magic pill that will cure everything instantly. Now we see that it’ll be a pill that takes a while to get through.

It’s still cheaper than the long-term costs of Iraq.

The present “system” is ten times more costly, and kills thousands each day of the year to profit mainly the hospitals and insurance companies but with plenty leat over for big pharma and a bit for the “doctors” and plenty for the lawyers!

Yes, the pill for the current private insurance system is just outside. We’ll need a forklift to bring it in, but if you want it….

As they say about cancer treatments, it’s better than the alternative.

cdward, exactly right. Also the current for-profit insurance costs don’t come in pill form, they are jammed in a different orifice.

A little hard to swallow?!? What he proposes is twice nothing, and for me, twice nothing has always been less than nothing. There are all sorts of ways to do it right, but Obama is determined to do things his own way, the wrong way, and that will destroy our health care system for all of us. If there is a public option for health insurance it will be set up to create a government monopoly, and monopolies are baaaaad, remember. But hey, if YOU want mommy and daddy government deciding if you deserve to be treated for an illness or injury based on your age, sex, usefulness to society, or lifestyle than bow down and kiss the ground that lord Obama walks on (just do me a favor and “get a room”). Me, I want REAL reform and REAL fixes so I can have REAL choices.
If you think health care is expensive now, just wait until it’s free. It will be a real killer.

pswhitlark, I agree that Obama’s reforms don’t go far enough. I’d rather see the French system, but I’ll take this as a start. And why can’t the public option work? We have public postal service and competition from FedEx and UPS (granted, only larger stuff, but they compete with the USPS). There are public schools and private schools. There is no monopoly.

Personally, I trust private insurance companies far less than I trust the government.

CD, you think the postal system

    a) makes money

    and

    b) can compete with FedEx and UPS?

If you do … . wow. You will love Gov’t Healthcare!

Right_On, not necessarily for the postal system. But it does deliver the mail at a low price for the general public. Look at prices for this service in toher countries if you don’t believe me.

    Iraq War: not needed
    Health care: needed.

Doesn’t Congress have a “goverment health system”??? That works pretty well and doesn’t cost them = just us taxpayers. Also Medicare is government run and as a senior I appreciate it.
The Republ are in the private insurerers and pharmacolgoly’s pockets - so of course they’re against a public insurance. Their scare tactics worked so well with the Iraq war now they’ll use it to scare people against a health care system.

Health care needed–right–and individuals should be responsible enough to provide for themselves

oh howie, i was hoping you would at least acknowledge there are millions of people who can’t get healthcare insurance … sure, they can get medical care if they can pay cash for the prices which will be double that charged to insurers

here I go again. People who can’t get health insurance at an affordable premium include: part-time workers, self-employed, contract workers, people who work for small businesses, people with a pre-existing health condition

If ALL businesses stopped providing employer-paid health insurance overnight, Howie, how many empoloyees would ”be responsible enough to provide for themselves” ?

It’s amazing how people are MYSTERIOUSLY getting more and more “lazy” as costs keep going up every year, isn’t it?

maybe if my work ethic was better I wouldn’t have gotten cancer 9_9
