I would agree, but those are free market values. I’m guessing his is a multi-year contract and hers only one, but the frame of reference is still valid.

“Well, my kids aren’t going to give me an easy way to feel superior to others from going to school, are they?”

And that’s really what we’re all about in this country these days, isn’t it? Easy ways to feel superior to others. I’ve got the winning sports team, the bigger TV, the shinier car, the more attractive spouse, so that means I win and you lose.

And hey, if you want your kids to win, put ‘em in sports. Sure, they’ve got less than a 1% chance to get into the pros… but that’s still better than their odds of becoming the next Steve Jobs after going through our public school system!

(Also, thank you for pointing this out, Mr. Litton. It shows the difference between a sports fan, who can accept the flaws in professional sports, and a sports fanatic, who willingly blinds himself to them.)

Further proof our priorities are exactly right. Baseball players are MUCH more valuable than educators. Just look at the number of unemployed college graduates compared with the number of unemployed ball players who can hit .356 against a major league opponent team.

Lower the number of teachers to match the number of professional athletes so that they have class sizes equal to the attendance of major league sports. Broadcast their classes and sell ads to major corporations. Sell hundreds of thousands of jerseys with the teachers names on the back.
Give teachers a share of the revenues generated.
    Problem solved! Easy, wasn’t it?

Major league sports are the rich mans’ way of keeping the minds of the lower classes from paying more attention to what is important. I know people who can tell you all the scores, stats, etc. but have no idea what is going on in Washington D.C. other than what the mainstream media wants them to know.
