Have a friend who’s wife’s priorities were the kid, the dog, the cat, the husband. After two years, the latter became: looking for a new husband. He’s very happy in his second marriage. She’s replaced the dog, the cat, and the kid is in college.

When my wife and I were dating I respected her enough to not issue an ultimatum regarding her cat. Fortunately she chose to leave her cat with her younger brother and sister. 15 years later we ended up taking in a cat that was abandoned by our neighbors. Took our dog a while to get used to, but he, and I now accept her as part of the family. (The cat, not the wife).
