My granddaughter put on the movie, “Parental Guidance”. It was all about this subject. Grandpa Artie(Billy Crystal) was hilarious trying to cope with all the rules of acting, talking and so forth that the young ones were to follow.

Saw it, and sadly it’s true. Kids won’t know how to handle simple situations when they grow up.

I went to my great-grandson’s graduations from pre-school and kindergarten. In both, every child received at least one award. Back in the old days, the only award of any kind we received before high school graduation was the reverse kind, not being sent to reform school.

It was the Lyman School for Boys.

Oh, I don’t know, it seems to me that it’s the 1% that think they’re entitled to everything since they’re the “job creators”. The rest of us are too busy either working or looking for work that isn’t actually being created.

It seems self-esteem trophies are more for the parents’ consolation.

“These are the same people that are now the 99%.”
    Oh, there’s a clever observation.
In case you haven’t noticed it, 99% of people are in the 99%. The future 1% isn’t made up of people who were well-educated or brought up, it’s made up of the offspring of the current 1%
It’s painfully obvious that you were in the top 90% of your class.

Of course, the absolute epitome of unshakeable self-esteem and utter lack of ability was Ed Wood, the creator of such classics as “Plan 9 From Outer Space.”

we’re still in the ‘self esteem’ age – but it’s strictly for the parents.
I see children of every age and grade “graduating” with real graduation ceremonies and robes – even kindergarden and 1st grade.

The kids don’t really care – they just want to have fun, eat cake and play with their friends. They won’t remember any of this with a real memory, just flashbacks from pictures. it does nothing for them
The parents want this to feel better about themselves and their parenting skills and to somehow think “my kid is special” but yes, he/she is — just like every other child in the world.
