"Garry Trudeau is the premier American social and political satirist of his time." -Newsweek Doonesbury has managed to be articulate, abrasive, political, compassionate, misunderstood, misprinted, and outrageous - but one thing it's never been is complacent. Garry Trudeau's creation has chronicled American history and culture in a parallel universe. And through it all, Doonesbury has always been honest, entertaining, and thought-provoking.

Every time GT gets on one of his political rants, it’s always a ‘liberal’ agenda! Stick to comedy.

I was a lobbyist. But they made me buy a ticket and see the movie.

I’ve only been following Doonesbury for about 25 years, and in that time, GBT ridiculed Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton in about equal measure. There was also a (sadly deceased) character of Lacey Davenport, a Republican politician who was steadfastly loyal to her principles. My belief is that GBT highlights the absurd and ridiculous wherever he finds such behaviour (e.g. a week of strips ridiculing a by-law that prevented outside drying of laundry!). If in recent years the Republicans have been more ‘ridiculed’ than Democrats, you may well be correct that this is due to GBT’s bias’ However given the history of Doonebury over 40 years, the alternative may be that the Right / Republicans may just be better at supplying good material for the strip.

Totally agree!

There’ve been plenty of shots at the current administration, too. GT, I’m sure, would be proud to acknowledge being a liberal, but you take your comedy where you find it. Mind you, I do think the Bush-bashing got a bit reflexive.

Careful that is zealot talk. I mean people on the extremes say love it or leave it

Is left right, or is right all that’s left?

GT has NEVER bowed down before the “Sacred Cows” of Government, no matter if they were Republicans, or Democrats!
If it seems that he picks on the Republicans a bit more then the Democrats, just consider the sources of his satire!
It’s a LOT easier to make fun of a bunch of people running around blindly trying to Govern based on Knee-Jerk reactions to problems then it is to make fun of people who actually try to solve the problems in the first place!

I’m glad I don’t know anything about politics.

No mocking of Obama for getting (losing?) religion on gay marriage after Biden makes the new policy?

I haven’t been reading Trudeau’s strip as long as you, finding the White House sequences years ago too repetitive to enjoy but I love this strip now, every single day beginning with the book of strips “Tee-Time in Bezerkistan”. I can read that again and again and still literally LOL at some of the wit.
