"Garry Trudeau is the premier American social and political satirist of his time." -Newsweek Doonesbury has managed to be articulate, abrasive, political, compassionate, misunderstood, misprinted, and outrageous - but one thing it's never been is complacent. Garry Trudeau's creation has chronicled American history and culture in a parallel universe. And through it all, Doonesbury has always been honest, entertaining, and thought-provoking.

Reality is something Jeff doesn’t want any part of.

In that case, Jeff should use his CIA connections to get a job working for Karl Rove, Inc.

Yeah, that’s about the age they move back into Mom’s Basement!
(And stay there until they inherit the house.)

Reality based lifestyle? Like not wearing sunglasses indoors.

… thirty-somethings “move back into Mom’s Basement! (And stay there until they inherit the house.) …and shack up and line up for free stuff!”
All of which which resulted from Dubya Bush’s deregulated free market whose bosses — motivated only by Gordon Gekkoist “greed is good” runaway capitalism — almost destroyed our national economy and landed us in the worst Recession since the great Depression. President Obama tried to fix it FDR-style, but was blocked at every step of the way by the Paul Ryanist tax-and-give-to-multinational-business Congress.
Ahead for you: 12-hour workday X six-day workweek = 72-hour workweeks X $5/hour wage = $360 per wage week. $360 per week X 50 workweeks per year = $18,000 per year salary.
About what it costs Romney and his family to eat ONE din-din at the Ritz. Of course it will be free for them once he is elected in a contest he’s ensured of winning by the U.S. Supreme Court.
Over your work lifetime you will never be able to save enough to buy a “middle class” home. You will only be able to BORROW enough to live in a over-priced hovel. The interest on your loan will be so high that you will never be able to pay it off, but will sink deeper and deeper into debt till by the time you retire you will owe a too-big-to-fail-bank twice as much money as your hovel is worth.
Oh, and your health insurance? Bwahahahahahahahahahahaaa!
Meanwhile the Robber Barrons will be drinking 2,000-per-bottle wine in their private jets at 30,000 feet while cavorting with their playmates, one of whom may even be your daughter, provided she’s pretty and sexy enough. I mean, after all, why not? They’ll pay her more than they’ll pay you!
WELCOME TO ROMNEYWORLD!!

Be afraid. Be VERY afraid!

Well, Jeff is about to discover that sometimes reality is a bitch!
And, I don’t feel sorry for him in the least!

My Son is married, both have jobs, no children, 42 years old and I still send him 8-10 thousand a year to live a decent life. He will have his mortgage paid off in 10 years. My grandson and his wife and 2 children get my house when I die, but I bet he won’t be able to come up with the 2 grand a year to maintain it and two cars all that are paid for unless they never go out to eat. I just want to outlive my dogs so I know that they are well taken care of the rest of their lives. That takes 5-6 grand a year.

@Larry
I don’t understand whether you commiserating or commenting on your relatives’ status. I have seen a generational decline in the quality of life, but a good life is still available if you are a bit thrifty and cost effective. But wages and salaries are on the decline in order to subsidize the wealthiest among us.
