First, I am not one of the Obama haters that materialize out of the aether and spontaneously combust. But I do not approve (not that it matters) of the Peace Prize committee giving an award based on “hope”, particularly for someone with no real track record. Some people really earned their awards. (Albert Schweitzer, Mother Teresa, Doctors without Borders, Norman Borlaug, among others). Woodrow Wilson’s League of Nations was a thing of hope, but ultimately a failure. But at least he got it started.
Good thing you don’t have any voice in awarding the Peace Prize then. More to the point, nor does ANYONE else. Nobel committees, from the Chemistry prizes to the Literature prizes, and especially the Peace Prize, have always been on their own, and controversy has often erupted.
Eh, I’m with Baslim; I’m an Obama backer, no error, and I think the only decent thing any Republican can do after the previous eight years is sit down, shut up, and let us try to clean up their mess. But I can’t figure a thing Obama did to merit this other than Not Be Bush. Well, heck, I’m not either. Can I book my trip to Stockholm next year?
…actually Obama deserves the award..he has offered a olive branch to our enemies,a hand to our friends…showed that there are some lines a freedom loving people should and will not cross to maintain their freedoms:even at the cost of their own safety..he has told the people of not only America ,but the world that they have to be part of the solution..he has tried working in a bipartisan way.President Obama is acting like the ‘LEADER’ of the free world ..whom else is better deserving ?The press let the Fox run the henhouse on this one..shame on them..
I think we’re missing the point. There’s a general assumption that the Nobel Peace Prize stands for something particular, but winning it doesn’t rest upon any particular standardized criteria. Pleasing the whims of the prize committee are the only qualifications nessisary. The award means nothing more than that, and winning it has little significance.
Dr. Nobel created the award as a sort of personal penance for inventing explosives used in wars. I wonder what he’d think of how his name - and his money - are being used?
What Wilson, Arafat, Kissinger and Obama all have in common is that they’ve sought peace through the use of gunpowder and explosives–good old Al’s contribution to Western society. Maybe that’s the criterion…
So Georgia was going to be invited to join NATO. And we were going to put “defensive” missiles in Georgia all along the Russian border. Except that Russia really objected to missiles on their border. So if Georgia was a NATO ally, we would have been OBLIGATED to send in troops to help defend if Russia (or anybody else) invaded. Except, Russia was ALREADY invading. Oops.
How’s that for a bright idea? Sorry, but if the President hadn’t done anything else, un-inviting ourselves from a war in Russia deserves the Nobel.
One thing I’ve always wondered…Kissinger is supposed to be an expert on diplomacy. When did he succeed at it? I mean, for our side? (His Nobel was won for sealing the other side’s victory; a successful diplomat furthers the interests of who he’s working for, not his employer’s enemies.)
Watch, my friends. Obama will leave the White House with his Swedish trinket. Shortly after that we’ll get nuked and wonder why the hell we didn’t listen to Dub-ya. Do you honestly think Iran would be shaking a nuclear stick at us if a Republican were in office? Wake up. You can’t make peace with people who have declared war on you and vowed to wipe you off the face of the Earth. Obama was good at only one thing, getting elected.
So then, using the same criteria, shouldn’t Bubba Clinton have gotten the prize for all the work he did to try an bring “Freedom” to the people of Mogadishu? Oh, I’m sorry, he used the US Army, Marines and Delta Force to try and get the troublemakers out, and they had to do it with in a particular timeframe.
And where did we come out? On the short end of the stick as usual with a ‘Rat as the C-in-C.
How about the all the the Natural Disasters around the World that happened on W’s watch, where the US was the only people who came to aid the “Poor, Unfortunate” peoples who got the worst of it? And don’t even go the way of NOLA and Katrina. That should have been taken care of in the beginning of the Local and State Government, before going to look for a handout from the rest of the US. And when the Feds did come in, all they got was crapped on…….
Keep telling me why it’s such a great thing BHO got this so called “Peace Prize”. Not worth the metal the medal is made of….
NOTICE TO ALL RIGHT-WING DELUSIONALS:
Wasting time parroting RNC talking points in Comments columns such as this is will neither, a) change any sane reader’s mind, nor, b) get your dumbass political hacks back into power.
No, the only way to win it is with votes. And the only way to win votes is like Obama did, by displaying intelligence. And so far, the putzes you sent to Washington have proven themselves to be slightly less intelligent than drool.
And so is your futile ranting in columns such as this. You’re welcome.
I am sorry there is nothing important what 5 politicos from Norway say. The Nobel Peace prize is a joke. In the past they nominated Hitler. It is true they took his name out of nomination when he launched his second invasion Poland I think.
RenoMike
I am sorry but I do not know by what intelligence you mean. In his short time in office he has ticket off the elderly the most active voting block you have while ticking off his own base. He won votes by being prettier then the other guy and better spoken. Nice but it dose not gut it one little bit.
Someone actually worries about us being nuked by Iran?!?!
Incredibly stupid. The day Iran even comes close to having a nuclear weapon, Israel turns it into a parking lot.
It’s not his fault that he won it, how can you fault the man? He didn’t ask for it and seemed nonplused about the award. Support him or no, he’s got class and didn’t act like some boob about it. And yeah, it says a lot about Dub that just not being him and trying to lead in a more positive way is enough, maybe anyone who was the next pres would’ve been up for it, who knows? But maybe we should give him the benefit of the doubt. I think he’s doing well in trying circumstances.
This award was simply an attempt to influence Obama and U.S. policy. What next, awarding Olympic gold medals based on the assumption that a person should win? This follows perfectly after they awarded the Nobel Peace Prize to Mr. Green, Al Gore who’s home consumes more electricity then five average family homes. I supported Obama after Ron Paul dropped out but this is just silly.
WaitingMan, Israel wanted to bomb Iran into a parking lot about 18 months ago, but “Dumbya” forbade it.
Although, I can’t see why Israel needed his permission.
I would like to remind the likes of RenoMike, who chastises us “RIGHT WING DELUSIONALS” and accuses us of “… futile ranting”, that 9/11 was six years in the planning and was set in place while Clinton (a Democrat) was in office. Same thing is happening now; an army is being imported into this country while Obama encourages us to look the other way. Skip the jargon, avoid calling people “dumbasses” and use language intelligently to make your point and perhaps, just perhaps, we will consider your point of view. Until then, I will only ask you if your DD-214 lists an Honorable discharge; and what arena did you serve in when you did your military time? Or are you one of those light in the shorts kind of guys that thought you got away with something by not serving?

That President Obama is not President George W. Bush is apparently enough for the Nobel Committee. It works for me!
