Since I cannot cast the first stone, let me cast the first comment.
Hypocritical Pharisees! Your power and wealth will not see you into Jesus’s heaven.

Makes me glad I’m an atheist as I would be ashamed to have to acknowledge them as christian “brothers”…

I see, Baslim, so you would rather as an atheist acknowledge Stalin and Hitler as brothers?

“Qdata”, I suspect that yours and a typical Klansman’s theology probably agree on more topics than disagree. However, I also suspect you would probably not wish to claim Klansmen as “brothers”.

How convenient. So whatever happens, it’s not the Lord’s fault?

And what does God have to do with “The Family” anyway?

Pharisees is a very good analogy. Getting so obsessed with following the letter of the written word that the ideas behind it are completely obscured, and even negated. And the “written word” was an oral history for many years prior to it being “written”. Anyone ever play “telephone”???? And hand copyists, as happened for centuries, are not much better!

For people who belive and have faith, the wriiten word is of the Holy spirit. God breathed. No mistakes.

THAT IS NOT BILL CLINTON! The guy at the door is a member of the GOP; therefore, he is a Republican.

There was no Bibles for “Christians” when “God breathed” was written in a New Testament Epistle.

“God breathed” can be better translated as “God inspired,” meaning the authors of the works finally put into a Bible wrote by “inspiration of the Holy Spirit.” God Breathed, or God inspired, does not mean “God dictated.”

Sure looks like Slick Willy to me. He was always one to blow in the wind anyway - if he thinks the GOP is making a comeback, watch him drop his awful wife on the concrete and “Rush” over to the other side of the aisle. And I seem to remember him raising Christianity more often than his pseudo Conservative successor.

Then why has man chosen to take the god breathed word and change it more times that the New York telephone directory? How is it a being with aseity can’t make sure a pristine copy gets into the hands of each generation born?

Scholars believe that there are between 2-1/2 and 5 million differences between the 5600 Greek NT writings we have in our possession. Only 80% are editorial mistakes of the copyists.

Of course, that doesn’t include the 30 Gospels of Jesus that didn’t make the vote to get included into the NT canon.

This strip is of course referring to the C street address of the ultra - conservative religious organization that is the place where many politicians, mostly Republicans rent rooms. Here they have prayer cells. The group has kept a low profile until recently when 3 of it’s members became involved in sex scandals - South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford, Nevada Sen. john Ensign and former Mississippi Rep. Chip Pickering.

The hallmark of good political satire is when the author takes on those in power. Not going to happen with this strip.

Qdata: as an atheist, I have the freedom to pick those whom I would honor. Folks like Jesus, Buddha, Gandhi… but not the guy who said “kill them all, God will know his own”, who claimed to be a Christian, doing God’s work of course, killing 20,000 to get to a small number of “heretics”.

LIke a good Catholic, “Absolve me of my sins and help me commit more.” Do these gop “christians” actually read and understand what that book is trying to teach them? Doubtful. If they want to run around on their wives, thats cool. Just don’t point fingers and tell people how to live their lives.

I geuss the “let he who is without sin cast the 1st stone” parable is lost on these “christian” jack offs.

It says ‘GOP Lawmaker’ so I’m betting a fictitious congressman, probably a composite of Ensign, Pickering and probably a few others, maybe even with a bit of Clinton thrown in.

  26. BlueRaven

    BlueRaven said, 3 months ago

Sorry, JTPozenel, but as a pagan, I find the monotheistic vs atheistic hooraw to be quite entertaining at my remove. Not offended by this strip at all. I think the hypocrisy of the people who wrap themselves in the mantle of an allegedly perfect god to shield themselves from their own imperfections is a perfect target for mockery. Forgetting their god shows flaws in their own texts is priceless.

Let me make sure I understand here - the Bible is absolutely true, except it CAN’T be, because the Torah is true, except it CAN”T be, because the Koran is the true word, except it CAN’T be, because the Bible is the actual truth, except…..
You can BELIEVE anything you want, but believing the sun rises in the west and sets in the east does not make it so.

@ushindi, I just want to add one comment (since everything else has already been said by somebody here):

just because one thing is true doesn’t mean that the opposite thing must be false. That only applies to a certain kind of mathematics. There are other kinds.
