Trust me, her comment comes from a little insecurity on her part. The relationship is too early for her to be that forgetful of his condition. But then again, Wilson Bob Tucker always said “Don’t let the facts get in the way of a good story” and this is a great one.

I have had aphasia on occasion due to suffering a head trauma.

Here in Tulsa, there is the Vet Center and there is also the VA Behavioral Health branch of the Ernest Childers Out Patient Clinic. They are in different areas of town. Behavioral Health used to be at the OPC; but, they moved that department to another location.

But, if a person like Toggle went to the Vet Center, he would find out that the Social Worker with whom he talked would not be like a stranger at all.

While the Social Workers at the Vet Center are licensed and certified mental health professionals, some of them are more like peer counselors since they were in war zones, too, as active duty personnel.

    Joe Allen,

Thanks for your post. Hopefully it will give some our brave vets the push they need to get help.

Amazing how the story manages to be both melancholy and LOL funny at the same time.

@GEE1A; why should it be either/or? can’t he have Alex AND get counselling from the VA, both? people DO go on living when they are having treatment!

Can we PLEASE get Alex a new hairstyle for gossakes? I mean, that multi-ponytail/rubber band barrette thing went out in 1993 or so, didn’t it?
