Wow. Not a week has gone by since the election, and already the tide has turned from “interest in political matters and civic duty” to “the media hype is too much.” Sadly, it seems, not a thing has changed – we are still just wheat stalks and we bend in the direction the wind tell us.
Our constant engagement in our political process is our duty. An election is not the end, it is the beginning. Media coverage is necessary so that we stay an informed electorate – or have you all learned nothing from the last 8 years when Americans just tuned out?
Nicely phrased BirishB. It seems we Americans have to be bashed over the head with sensationalistic presentations or we won’t pay attention. Readers, just keep reading and trust that G.T. and his pals will hold our interest.
BirishB is correct that engagement in the political process is a duty–a duty, not an obsession. That’s what Alex’s problem is; she seems unable to just sit back and just savor her victory for a while.
I’m in withdrawal, too, so I’m following our president-elect’s selection of his cabinet very, very closely. And Palin’s return to Alaska, where my sympathy is with the wolves.
Palin probably “hunts” wolves only from the safety of a helicopter, so first, the wolves would have to charter a helicopter, and I don’t think they have the funds for that. More’s the pity.

Actually, I don’t mind the media coverage, when it helps inform me. The problem I have just now is that the media coverage seems about 80% about the fact that we elected our first black president. It apparently wasn’t a big deal during the election, why is it such a big deal now? I mean, one or two articles, OK. A frenzy? Yuck. That’s hype, and I find it too much.
I want the media to keep the electorate informed. What are Obama’s policies, what sort of people is he choosing for his administration? Give us some news, not just things we know already because we can see and count for ourself.
I get three newspapers daily, plus television news. Keeping informed is very important. However, the election is over. The post election analysis and the angry tirades from the losing side get to me. It’s time to move forward, not look back.
I feel like I need to clarify The media hype is too much.
We do need to be civic minded 360 days a year whether it’s an election year or not. If you are out there volunteering in your community, keeping your home safe for your family, making a difference in someones life that is less fortunate then you; you are probably not sitting in front of the tube watching the circus.
I did not appreciate the continual Super Bowl approach that our media uses to pull us in so they can have higher ratings.
The media feed us fear and sensationalism instead of facts and head line news. I do not want to know about Joe the plumber, I want to see what is happening in Iraq.
We are misguided by Foxx, CNN and NPR they all have a slant and it’s smoke and mirrors.
YES, give me the news not the hype.
and please I do not want to start a pissing war over who’s facts and anchor person knows more then mine.
It’s sad to see just how hateful liberals are. It just gives me more reason to be a conservative.
Throughout the election, liberals were doing hateful things to republicans, creating hateful rumors that weren’t true and the liberal media was digging for dirt. What amazes me is the blinders liberals have to how deceitful, dishonest and downright traitorous the media is when its in the liberal’s favor.
Frida – I used your comment in reference to a general malaise that has beset America since election day. I’ve heard that sentiment over and over. Didn’t mean to take you out of context, but I’ve seen people give up already … and it hasn’t even been a week yet!
JonD17 - True, RPG’s are less expensive than helicopter rental, but they really degrade the environment and a wolf might not be able to lift the launcher. Maybe it would be better all round if the bears, cougars, wolves and moose just set up a temporary alliance next time the Palin family goes hunting…
cwcarlson, honey, don’t you realize that when liberals are pissing and moaning and reading someone’s tea leaves, we’re having fun with it? Most of the time it sounds like conservatives are actually SERIOUS about what they’re saying about (each other and) everyone else.
Liberals, conservatives … who cares? We need to join our voices for ALL of the people in this country. Big business and big politics run everything. This is not a country where ANY man (or woman) can become President now. America needs to wake up before it’s too late. I don’t have an answer, but perhaps someone brighter than I could figure out a way to join forces rather than tear each other down. We all live here by choice. Complaining does nothing but foster more resentment.
We need to act as one. I’m tired of the polarization and finger pointing. Can we find some common ground? Do we all believe that our home and families are important. That are children deserve solid education? We should all be able to visit a doctor, dentist, optometrist and our children too? Our work conditions should be safe and be paid for a good days work?
We want our troops to be safe, we want wholesome food.
I believe we could all come up with a common list of what is important in our lives.
Thank you. I don’t know about Roger, but I much prefer big dog to pup. I’ll take it in the spirit in which it was meant though. How to get the “liberals” and “conservatives” to agree on anything will never take place as long as people like Possum Pete keep name-calling.
Our big gal Carmen was 1/2 rotti & 1/2 standard poodle. She was the best!
If I had given it some more thought, I should have said you big dogs rock. In either case you rock. Pups are pups from the day we pick em up at the pound to the day we lay them down in their final resting place. I still call my 7 year old chihuahua pup. It’s a term of endearment.

Roger, mayhaps the wolves could acquire a couple of RPG units much cheaper and MUCH more easily attainable.

Your “theory” is so full of holes, it doesn’t merit a response. But I will say this: the word “liberal” is not as pejorative as you think it is.

44DLW - maybe in this itty bitty thumbnail format, Frida mistook your mastiff for a pug. (Roger ducks and runs real fast for the hole under the fence)

Roger,
You could very well be correct about that. Some people prefer the little breeds, but the old gal likes the big one. My son has an enormous rott.
