   Don’t judge real Mavericks by the fictional tv characters. The Mavericks are a real family with people who have been active in liberal and civil rights causes.

   They, in their own words, “only swindled swindlers,” and only cheated in extreme circumstances. (Bret once dealt blackjack to Doc Holliday and cheated to let Doc win, on the theory that Doc wouldn’t kill anybody while he was running a winning streak.)

   And yeah, McCain is no Maverick. But Sarah Palin, on the other hand, *IS* Samantha Crawford, right down to the fake folksy speech.
