Church, our country was spinning into a black hole after eight years of Bush.

Nomad thinks it was stupid to try to change course.

Do you agree it was stupid?

  7. petergrt

    ” … to change course …”

    What does it mean?

How many people voted for 0bama believing that it was time to turn from market based economy to that dictated by a government ?

Anybody that did is indeed a moron.

In the early part of the 20th century, one could excuse such experimentation - with new ideas.

But, by the end of the 20th century however, the experience from around the globe should have made us wiser.

    Mob rules?

  14. Gladius

    Gladius said, 3 months ago

The Mob was a reference to the uneducated and poor. The electoral college was part of a design to limit direct democracy or Mob Rule. This is also the reason that Senators were not necessarily elected directly. It was also the reason for property ownership as a precondition for voting. At the founding of America, the vote was much more restricted than it is today, even for white males.

  15. Anthony 2816

Anthony 2816Genius_badge said, 3 months ago

I’m not sure if that’s how Nomad meant it, Gladius. Given the high percentage of liberals found in educational environments, I don’t think you can use “uneducated” as a blanket term today.

  16. deadheadzan

    deadheadzanGenius_badge said, 3 months ago

“The voice in my head says it’s fake”! ROFL! at this image. I wonder how much longer this crazy idea will go on? It can ,and is, being repeated endlessly, so I guess the idea that if you tell a lie often enough will make it true, is the guiding principal here. Gladius, very interesting historical reference. So we have come a long way. Women and people of color and non- property owners can now vote.

  17. Gladius

Someone is ALWAYS bringing up George Bush…

  20. David

    DavidGenius_badge said, 3 months ago

Of course they are always bringing up Bush. That is how they justify their current actions of growing government and spending more money we don’t have to spend.

The problem with this argument is that they are indirectly admitting that they are doing the same things Bush did…the exact same things they have criticized him for.

The bottom line is in reckless spending and growing government they are no different than he is.

Its the same actions done by a different group of losers.

One day before its too late I hope we wake up and see that neither of the two groups of bozos hold the answers we need to fix problems in this country.

David: “exact same” is redundant. Two things are either the same or different; there are no degrees of sameness. The same problem as “very unique.” There are, however, degrees of similarity.

These forums are much more enjoyable, and educational, if the posters follow up on responses to their posts, rather than just posting and then ignoring. The latter suggests that the posters realize that their posts aren’t worth even reading. While that seems to be the case with posters like ANandy and Puppy, your posts suggest an education and thought process worth further discussion.

Okay, so “exact same” is redundant. It was really meant for emphasis more than anything.

Anthony: I will try to get back to those threads. I don’t have a time to paruse the toons all the time so I try to get back to what I can.

I found it very interesting though that Republicans in eight years spent more than their Democrat counterparts did in their previous 40 years of power. Now the Democrats appear to be trying to top what the Republicans have done. They are doing the same thing as the Republicans have done…spent money that we do not have. Wakey wakey folks: the treasury is overdrawn by 11 trillion dollars and there’s an over 1 trillion dollar deficit waiting to add itself to the count.

It is obvious that nothing has changed.

Puppy, are you aware that there are forums run by fundie christians, in which only posts praising Jesus are allowed? Any posts that question anything about christianity are immediately deleted, as well as any posts giving liberal positions, making the discussion completely biased.

Perhaps you’d enjoy forums like that better than the free-for-all that exists here?

It’s been a few years since I participated in one of those forums (and you can imagine how that went), so I don’t remember the URL or even the name of it, but I can’t imagine they’d be to hard to find.

    Just a for-your-interest.

And, just to expose yet another lie on your part:

No , really. They must have some basis for proving his citizenship; or they wouldn’t have let the issue come up again so early… Anthony, is your record skipping? Are you real or a ‘bot? I don’t need to go to factcheck.org; since they blithely dance around the key issues, like all the other Lib-pseudo-journalists. That’s all who will tackle the issue (like Salon.com); it’s easier for them to put bad journalism out. The real media just talks about it in vague generalities…it’s all been proven, right? Like Global Warming and the efficacy of universal health care. No debate necessary…Don’t even bother to read the bill…

Anthony, you don’t realize this…but I could say more against your assumptive attitude and ad hominen attacks than you can say against me and my discourse on this forum.

    Anthony:
[Puppy: “I don’t need to go to factcheck.org”

    Says it all.]

1)I’ve been to factcheck.org and have checked out your’s and others’ links to there and elsewhere. It’s not current, for one thing and doesn’t address the relevant concerns of detractors even from when that article came out, let alone in view of current debate.
2)Do I have to delineate the inherent biases and pitfalls of supposed “objective” journalism here? In view of that fact, factcheck.org is hardly a pristine tool of inquiry.

mostly-magus: Your analyses, like tpenna’s: need to go a little further if you want to know where “birthers” are coming from; at least as I see the problem. There is propositional evidence that the “Certificate of Live Birth” is a bureaucratic “catch-all” device to deliver official recognition of some legal status to persons who only have to show minimal proof of citizenship or eligibility.

1)Obama’s concerned Parent and grandparents may have utilized this to obtain ostensible citizenship for the foreign-born Barack.
2)Un-coerced testimony has Barack being born in Kenya. Whether the Paternal-grandparent’s testimony is erroneous or mistaken has not been substantiated.
3)Until Barack deigns to release his LONG-FORM BIRTH CERTIFICATE; I can regard his Presidency as a Tyranny and an illegal usurpation of office.

How hard is it to check these things out? Apparently, it is next to impossible ; if not impossible, all-together. And this is in a supposed representative “Democracy” with fully protected rights of Free Speech.

See, it really doesn’t matter if he was born in four different places at the same time, as long as it WASN’T IN THE U.S.!

  50. NoFearPup

    NoFearPupGenius_badge said, 3 months ago

And, I’ll add, again : A suspect process of validation tends to invalidate the certification of the finding. As well as the personal testimony of Grandma O.
Anthony, I would prefer Pres. Obama to be a citizen. I’m against his apparent foundational views, and those belonging to the “Democratic” Party as a whole; but, I am for the concept of Americans helping Americans if the country reaches a concensus of what needs to be done. And I believe the Republican Party’s process for determining the people’s will is flawed. I hope for the best.
