It’s official: I have to wait to see this guy’s cartoons! The paper that employed him paid him to lose his job a year ago; now he has to syndicate his graphic views on world issues. I guess he’s not a morning person.

Paraphrased from Burn Notice; always know where the exits are in the building. Likewise in military planning, have several exit strategies to call upon at various times as events on the ground progress…

I can also relate to being led into an ambush by incompetent “leadership”. It led to that term “fragging” being added to the lexicon. Can’t think of Bush/Cheney without thinking of “little green apples”.(you vets know which ones I mean)

Again a ‘Toon by a Lib that totally misses the point. Let Obama bring ‘em home if the mission is bad. No, he ups the forces in Afghanistan. Hope he IS ready to go into Pakistan…Otherwise the American Blood on Obama’s Hands continues to increase with no end in sight.

Afghanistan became what it is because Dub’ya & Co. so thoroughly dropped the ball there. We all know why.
NFP, Howie, et al, get tired of hearing it, but truth is stubborn: the previous administration left us in a multidimensional disaster.
Conservatives like to say that Obama (or the Democrats) “own it now”.
Good on Obama for any success his administration has! For any of our fat he can pull from the fire!
If yar thinkin’ we’re still in the shite, remember where the shite come from!

Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld/Bremmer so thoroughly raped the pooch they left nothing but three-legged pups behind, lots of them. Not holding my breath, but turning more stuff back to the locals, in Iraq, AND Afghanistan is the way out. The increase in troops in Afghanistan includes a big increase in “community affairs” types, and thinking, that makes us less an enemy, and more effort to return affairs to them. Let’s hope it works.

I agree with turning it over to the locals in Iraq, however, I don’t see any successful locals in Afghanistan unless you count the opposition. Taliban and warlords, take your pick. At least they are changing that stupid confrontational policy concerning poppy cultivation. That was a sure generator of ill will.

We are already in a multidimensional disaster if para-military organizations could launch attacks on America at will from any of their friendly nations. I think that was the point of the war in the first place. You know, the one Hillary and the Dems approved. So where the troops house themselves while the “pacification” of Iraq continues is irrelevant. They’re either there to add muscle or Boy-Genius needs to bring them home. Obviously the Obama team can’t make leadership decisions that make any more sense than the Bush Team’s decisions.

The point of the exercise ever since the forties has been – wait for it – we’ve gotta keep the war industry going, and to do that, we gotta keep blowing up their product, firing those bullets, etc. etc.
I liked Ike; he warned us, and he warned Jack. Now the wheel keeps on turning, and we may be stuck until we can figure out how to unglue the gobs of money from the whole process. The military/industrial/congressional complex (last part edited out of Ike’s address) is self-perpetuating, and firmly entrenched.

It goes back before the 40’s. Quite a few of the war industries in the U.S. would have gone bankrupt if the Allies had lost WWI. There is quite a bit of evidence in support of German victory without U.S. intervention. If Britain and France lost they wouldn’t have paid their war materials debt, which was quite high. The Germans did not have such a debt with us due to the British navy. Obviously, this is a simplification due to space but it should suffice.
