This is an article about ” Spanky ” another Republican http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=112690121&ft=1&f=1001&sc=YahooNews

Again, it’s not the sex or bragging about it but the hypocrisy. If he’s a “family values” politician trying to legislate morality, then he bleeep well better walk the walk as well as talk the talk. Beyond that, nobody cares about his adultery.

At least he had the common Decency to resign. Instead of the democrats respond. Which would be, ” I did not have sexual relations with that women” on tape. Off the record the democrats say bring on the male / female prostitutes, call girls, sluts, message therapeutics etc. Such as Clinton and the governor from NY.

And right on cue, striper77 sticks up for the lecherous and corrupt politician because he’s a Republican (and then looks for specks in all the Democrats’ eyes while ignoring the plank in his own).

I doubt Duvall resigned because of the adultery, folks. But rather because he would have been (and hopefully still will be) investigated for corruption since the ladies he slept with were lobbyists for firms that were beneficiaries of legislation he helped pass.

Howie, why is it BS? Did he not talk about himself as an upholder of those values? And yes, the fact that it was a lobbyist with whom he was committing adultery did have something to do with his resignation, I imagine.

By the way, I can’t believe they bleeped d-a-r-n.

cdward!! what happened to your clarity? your ethical discernment? your wisdom? IT’S NOT THE SEX OR THE BRAGGING ABOUT IT???? The man is married number one. Married and committing adultry, unabashedly, unrepentant, in fact laughing about it.

The man touted a firm and devoted stance on the sanctity of family number two. Yes he’s a hypocrite and a liar and an infidel.

And he gossiped about it, bragged about it to a fellow assemblyman who snickered about it number three

and four, now the world knows

    and

excuse me striper - COMMON DECENCY?? - guess again friend. he said that he had gotten into spanking her. he said that he liked it - he shared his AND HER secrets with a sick voyeur, in the assembly no less and they both laughed

what common decency do you find? he apologized? he had to. h a d t o.

the woman was stupid because he’s a sleeze, but i’m sure she never expected him to betray her as well as his wife and who knows if there are others. there usually are

it wasn’t just an indiscretion. i hope there’s a punishment to fit the crime.

I don’t think cdward is slipping in moral clarity, parkersinthehouse. He is merely remarking on the historical reality that politicians have seen their careers survive sex scandals. What really tends to get them in trouble with their constituents is hypocrisy.

And I agree with you in hoping that there is an investigation and some form of punishment. But again, while I hate adultery, there is no legal punishment for it. Rather, he deserves punishment for the corruption.

And, lest a member of the armed forces should point it out first, I should say that there is no legal punishment for civilians who commit adultery.

Was the spanking with the flat of the hand, or was it with the use of a special implement, like a whip or leather strap?

parker, tpenna is correct. I do not condone his actions in the least. They are morally reprehensible. However, I am not his pastor, and thus I have nothing to say to him nor he to me.

In the political arena, we elect officials to do their work, and their private affairs are not part of the calculations. If they were so, we’d have to throw out quite a few – maybe most, I don’t know.

I will reiterate that the hypocrisy is far worse than the actual sins he committed. It is worse politically and, I would suggest, morally.

his treatment of the trust placed in him - by wife, friends, assembly, government - are all tied to the same depravity - they’re inseparable. further i believe that a man’s/woman’s behavior in private life is inextricable from behavior in the public life.

it just seems that blatant moral misbehavior is not only perpetrated so casually but is broadcast casually and defended casually. it’s not just this guy either - edwards, sanford, navy, army, state, federal - and they s t a y i n o f f i c e - how do you think that affects the high-school/college people?

do we really wonder why others who consider these guys leaders with right minds jump right into adultry? or see these guys get away with their sickness and follow suit? or simply ease into believing that it’s run-of-the-mill ok to do - no big deal

i realize that this may be a semantic disagreement, but i think we’ve gotten soft - call it too permissive, negligent

I see a conflict of interest there, since the woman was a lobbyist.

Plus, He was in the Capitol when he spoke. IMHO, that’s not how somebody’s supposed to talk in such a sacred building, wether it’s the Capitol or the Canadian Parliament, any Statehouse or Legislative Assembly.

I like the body language in this ‘toon: The emancipated woman is paging through her morning newspaper with interest; while the domesticated male is slouched over dejectedly, while playing with his e-toy.
