Sorry miss, they are in this business to make money! Who do you think will pay for all these ads that describe how much better they are and how bad a public option will be for you?
Now pay up, do you think this cake is free? No free lunch, and all that.

Yes, the Insurance company execs need to gas up their private jets. You don’t actually think health insurance has anything to do with your being healthy do you?

The insurance premiums are going up because costs are going up. Any business is going to do what it takes to protect its profits….either by cutting back internally or passing imposed costs on to consumers.
How many people who constantly pound on the medical insurance companies have any actual knowlege on how they work?
The system is broken for sure. The insurance companies are a part of the problem not the cause of it.
People like to sue doctors for large sums of money. The settlements should be awarded when a doctor proves neglegent and has caused further medical problems or anguish. However, doctors are also getting sued for things that are really not their fault and being awarded these same large sums of money.
When that happens their malpractice insurance pays. Like any other insurance business if their payouts increase then their premiums must also increase. These numerous lawsuits and ridiculous sums of money have caused malpractice insurance rates to skyrocket. It has increased costs for doctors and also led to a practice of running unnecessary tests on patients to avoid being sued later.
We need tort reform badly. However, these suits are the trial lawyers’ cash cows and they won’t part with them easily. It is also documented fact that the Trial Lawyers of America fork over a lot of dough to Democrat candidates so don’t expect tort reform to happen while Democrats are in power.
Lobbyists are also another reason that prices stay high. They represent the insurance and pharmaceutical companies who entice Congressmen of both parties with money to escape the jaws of regulation. I don’t see how this will ever be fixed unless we vote out nearly all of the incumbents. This, too, looks pretty hopeless because more than three quarters of incumbents get re-elected. Then we moan and howl how things are broken and never change.
The health care plan on the table does nothing to address these two issues. It instead punishes private insurance and lets the trial lawyers and lobbyists off scot free.
