Yeah, I don’t get it either. I don’t think anyone - pro life or pro choice - would agree that fewer abortions is a bad thing. (And it is FEWER, not LESS, by the way.)

“Less abortions” probably means the doctor would stop part way through the procedure.

  4. devee

    deveeGenius_badge said, 4 months ago

“Fewer” is correct. Obama undoubtedly is hoping more access to and encouragement to use birth control would lead to fewer abortions. As myhaircut indicates, no one would think that was a bad thing!

You have to be 21 to vote, consume alcohol; create a minimum legal age to have a child. If we don’t assist teens to become parents, that will remove a lot of the “choice” of pro-choice, and I support the right to legal abortion.

Donna Barstow, thinks the Pope is one of the creatures from the Aliens movie franchise. Sorry, I don’t make the connection unless that’s really an abortionist in popes clothing.

    nomad2112: “popes”is possessive and should be “pope’s.”

“Less” with a qualitative object; “fewer” for quantitative. “Fewer” would be proper here.

Too bad these individuals had a mother that was pro life instead of pro choice. Then maybe we wouldn’t have them here to expound their views.

I think I’m finally twigging to Barstow’s style. She comes up with a humorous concept, and then explains it matter-of-factly instead of turning it into a joke.

I always feel like I’ve had the joke explained to me when I read her cartoons – although sometimes the explanation doesn’t quite make sense.

POPE SPEAKS with snake tongue, Or is that fork tongue,
Or Pope should burn, any women, at the steak (that ones 4 teach) that have had an abortion, Or Pope should burn at stake for talking to Pres. Obama, Or this is what happens when a colonoscopy go’s bad.
BUT WHY HANG IT IN HEALTH CLINICS ? HANG IT IN YOUR CHURCH WHERE IT WILL SCARE THE MOST GOOD.

senorbullwinkle - back at you. If it is a matter of life or death that is one thing. As a form of birth control as too many want to use abortion, no self respecting individual would support that. I don’t know where you fit in the greater scheme of things..

  17. richgrise

    richgrise said, 4 months ago

The only question about abortion should be:
Who is the owner of your body and its contents?

If government power doesn’t stop at our skin, we
might as well all start wearing swastika armbands
    and marching the goose-step.

but i gotta say - i so do not get the priest with a bizarre tooth-sportin snake comin out of his mouth. somebody?

Donna is pointing out that there isn’t anything more anyone can do to scare the hell out of a woman so she won’t get an abortion beyond what the Catholic church has already done by promising them hell-fire in the afterlife, and by topping that with a crucifix on top. So it is ironic that Obama promises to help prevent more abortions by applying the Dem’s concept of “Family Planning”(Which doesn’t really exist, It consist’s of this question,”Do you have enough money to afford an abortion?”)
It is further ironic that so many women, such as DB, accept the estrogen-challenged Femi-Nazis as their representatives of all things pro-creative. Which is my point in saying that it is a shame that a woman has to feel that her womb is a battlezone…when she is sovereign over her own womb by Divine Design I believe. But, I’m just a man - so what do I know?
I do, however, know that the head erupting out of the Pope’s mouth is reminiscent of the alien creature in the Ridley Scott produced movie “Alien”. A celestial parasite that aggressively assumes the use of human bodies in order to incubate it’s secondary off-spring in it’s birth cycle. Such parasite was brought aboard the Nostromo by the hapless crew members after picking it up at an ancient alien crash site in space on some asteroid. Then the crew has to figure out how to kill it, because any injury it receives permits it to bleed a corrosive body fluid, thus imperiling the integrity of the Nostromo’s hull, etc….I’ll leave the rest for your enjoyment on your own.

  22. EnglishTeacher

    EnglishTeacher said, 4 months ago

    NoFearPup: “…incubate it’s secondary off-spring in it’s birth cycle.”

“It’s” is the contraction form of “it is;” thus, your sentence reads “incubate it is secondary off-spring in it is birth cycle,” which is quite senseless.

The possessive form of “it” is “its.”

Let’s just let all the self-righteous of the world who are all knowing lay in bed with whatever walks around, get pregnant, get an abortion and then go back to laying around, getting pregnant and getting an abortion because it is their body to do with what they want. It is not a matter of government owning anything. Ever here of moral responsibility? Actually, most of those who complain that abortion for any frivolous reason should be legal have never had one and if push came to shove, probably never would. They are just all knowing.

  29. Right_On

    Right_On said, 4 months ago

It’s (is that right EngTeach?) definitely the creature from ‘Alien,’ but no idea why it’s the Pope.

  30. EnglishTeacher

    EnglishTeacher said, 4 months ago

Right_On: you are correct and your improvement is noted.

jag72: “Lay” is a transitive verb and requires an object; “lie” is the intransitive form you require, as in “…who are all knowing lie in bed…” and “…go back to lying around….”

Also, “Ever here” is incorrect and should be “ever hear.”

English Teacher, the Holt Handbook suggests that an apostrophe is not necessary on possessive “it” ; nor on the contractions “wont” and “dont”.
