Rodney King was tasered, went down, got up, grabbed a deputy and lifted him off the ground by the neck, choking him, with intent to kill- that’s the part of the tape only shown a couple times. The incident should have ended with him being shot. Instead, they subdued and arrested him, and more than 70 people died in riots because he was “abused”. Sometimes reality is indeed lost in the emotion, especially when the PR is properly used.

Dred, no offense on the wiki transcript, but I SAW THE VIDEO! Having been an officer (NPS Ranger- which brings up the guns in parks issue) in a similar encounter when a guy much bigger got my partner, it hit home. No, I didn’t shoot the dude (Rangers weren’t armed at that time), nor use unnecessary force, but he was not a happy camper when we booked him.
