The internet is handy for a lot of things. A lot of old books are now on the net and that’s very handy for research. Practically every college and government agency is online and has databases for the public. I used to have to go to document archives at libraries to find laws, studies, and other materials. Now, it’s moments with a mouse.
    .
What’s really bad are all these “cloud applications” where if the internet goes down, the user is stuck sitting there. Given that of the 50% of households that have internet are ~80% dialup, it doesn’t make much sense, either. Imagine waiting an hour to get all of the needed portions of a cloud-based program to load at 53k.

In Tucker’s case, it’s his only lifeline to the outside world.
