North Korea:We could hit you with five nukes!
US:Drat… we can only hit you with a couple thousand.
North Korea:Uh … never mind … just send us more money.

Great joke, I really like it.
But have you thought this case through?
Sure, the US could hit North Korea with a couple of thousand nukes and still have to spare. North Korea may just have five. And if these five would be delivered by missiles, the missiles would have to land on Hawaii to tank up and for maintenace.
But what is if these five nukes are already in the USA? In the form of small and dirty nuclear mines, easily carried by one man? Distributed over the five most important cities of the USA?
Smuggled into the USA by the same way all the tons of drugs take, which reach the USA daily?
You should never forget 9/11! Before 9/11 you Americans thought the Islamic Fundamentalists could never harm you at home. This thinking cost you 3000 lives.

It would be nice if North Korea would pay more attention to feeding it’s starving people rather than nuclear weapons.

    Sorry, yes,I replied to you.
There are things to be worried about.

    @dkram

Yes, the result would be something like you can see at Jericho.
For the small and dirty little bombs the technology is so damn simple, that one really could start worrying.

The next step in missiles is not to strike land, but hit satellites.

I love the remark about missles having to refuel in Hawaii.

    re: r2varney

It’s one of those weird things of Congressional economics that the military is about half the budget, but only 3% of the total money leaving the federal government. Most expenditures are automatic, with about 30% of the total federal expenditures being debt service and about 60% being direct payments to individuals such as social security, welfare, etc.

    re:The Kraut

In chapter “27.1.4 A Nuclear Terror Scenario” of National Wave of Foolishness, I explored the idea of an islamic nation like Iran putting nukes in shipping containers. With less than 5% of shipping ever inspected, it’s scary how easy it would be for some nation to do that.
