Babies and puppies are both quite cute, but underneath the soft, cuddly exteriors lie the fearsome hearts of competitors. Well, not really. When a new baby joins the household, Sophie the dog is initially irritated, but eventually comes to see the baby, Doug, as the asset he is: a better way to get snacks. Though the baby is still hogging precious attention, and has a tendency to pull ears and be a general nuisance, a begrudging friendship forms between the two rivals. Watch the mischief unfold in Brian Anderson’s Dog Eat Doug.

Cool! A GSP reference in a family strip!

At least she didn’t deploy her claws. Kitties get upset when confronted by strange animals, and Sophie is defiantly strange.

Had to look the GSP up. Nice to see Canadian references here, good on ya Sophie, maybe you even know who is the Prime Minister of Canada? That would be better than G Bush and some senators. Not that it would mean much considering who the PM is.

In kitten language, a no claw swat probably means “let’s play”
If there is a hiss involved, back off

Brian, is this a way to restart Sophie’s jealousy, since she’s basically Doug’s pal now? I’ve noticed this is very similar to how she seemed to expect Doug to be at the beginning of the strip.

If the kittens think Sophie’s strange, wait until they meed her lake critter friend.

that was just a friendly hello. No claws. If Sophie plays nice, maybe kitten will play nice. …. oh yeah… Sophie gets her face washed. …. Love the GSP reference.

A frined of mine once had a large manx cat who ruled the house. When their son came for a visit and brought his large dog (still a puppy at the time but at least twice as large as the cat). The dog tried to make friends with the cat and the cat taught him who was boss, from that point on the dog did whatever the cat wanted.
