Welcome to Dixie Drive, the main drag through that little town up the road. Make a right or left onto any side street and who knows what or who you might come across. These folks are as unpredictable as a squirrel in the street on a hot summer's day and they don't care what you think about it. They're not hurting anybody, (except maybe themselves). they're just playing their cards with the hand they were dealt, so stand back and we'll see what they come up with next. The folks near Dixie Drive might reside in some backwater southern town and some of their weirdness may be particularly "Southern" but don't kid yourself, this is Small Town America: the same animal from Portland East to Portland West. Woof!

no – if even 3 flakes of snow are seen, southeners panic and run to the store for bread and milk. You really can’t find any bread or milk within a day of a snow forecast. The lines will reach from the registers to the back of the store. I know this because I have now fallen into the mass panic attacks (I’ve been here since ’91.)

Yes Celecca! You hit it right on the head! This was the first Dixie Drive panel ever created and I was afraid that it might be too esoteric for the internet’s wide audience. It was created for our little local paper. I have NO IDEA what folks down here do with milk and bread when snow threatens but they sell out every time! Have a GREAT weekend everybody!

When it snows here, I don’t know which is the more dangerous:
The locals who aren’t used to driving in snow or the imports who think they can.
And is the N&O considered a little local paper?

Dixie Drive was originally created for the Asheboro Courier Tribune!

You forgot the eggs. Here in the Midwest it’s milk, bread and eggs. Apparently everyone around these parts makes French toast on snow days. :-)

Milk and bread get the headlines here but eggs get gone too. Got to have them to make snow cream!!!!
