When Husband sold real estate, often the only people who came to his Open Houses were neighbors.

Usually the sign-in sheet will deter at least some of the curious, but surely nothing will deter the Pennys. Burl is clear and upfront about it.
Even if the O’Leary’s couldn’t make a marriage work they were at least successful in keeping the Pennys out of their home.

Yeah, what every seller of anything, including real estate agents, wants most to hear:

“We didn’t come to buy anything. We just came to look.”

Some people are subtle or try to hide it a bit…. “Well, I’m not sure I’m ready to move, but if….”

The Pennys will not only say it straight out, they’re PROUD to sign the guest book so the neighbors will know they’ve been there.
And I’m sure they have no qualms about demanding time-wasting service from the agent…
a half-hour house tour, a copy of the roof inspection, a few brochures….

Probably even an off-the-cuff appraisal of their house…
“We’re not planning to sell it but we might need more insurance…”

Meanwhile … Joy will peek in the medicine cabinets,
and Burl will take photos of the bathrooms and the wet bar, for Neighborhood Watch, of course…
and peruse them for decorating ideas.

They were the cause of the O Leary’s divorce in the first place.. The gossip and nosiness… Let alone the fumes from the house when windows are open.
Good luck lady on making a sale…..the price will probably go way down just to get rid of it.

Maggie’s bein’ careful here: Caution is advised against lettin’ the former Mrs. O’Leery’s cow….or even a nosy neighbor who somewhat resembles said cow……into the house. Might start The Great Crustwood Fire, at worst! At least: Leave a noxious odor behind upon her departure….an odor which lingers for weeks.

Put a piece of cling film across the bottom third of the medicine cabinet, and then fill it with marbles.

Give them the tour real fast and get them out as fast as possible. Don’t want any real prospects to meet the Pennys.

I’d not be surprised if some newer neighbors came to my open houses. Older neighbors might have come to community meetings in my livingroom (as I like to host).

At least I have no neighbors like the Pennys.

I doubt if they stay very long unless there’s some sweet goodies laid out on the coffee table and if there is they’ll park their butts on the sofa and devour most of it.
