BTW…. it’s soo tempting, in light of Burl’s remark,
to bring up that infamous “quote” from former U.S. V.P. Dan Quayle…

    You know the one….
wherein he wishes he’d have studied Latin, so he could speak directly to the people during his tour of Latin America.

However… I have to take the high road….

and admit that he never said it.

It was said in jest, by a colleague of his, even …. .
    but somehow became runaway “news.”

A Latin textbook within 500’ of the Penny house? Doubtful. Maybe one of Patty’s old books, but likely those were all sold in a garage sale long ago.
But latin/latino? That’s pretty good, Burl. After all, the easiest way to speak Spanish is to talk slowly and loudly, put “-io” at the end of every noun and “ez” at the end of every name. Works all the time.

Joy must have gone to a Catholic school growing up. Dale, who apparently doesn’t know that Latin is a dead language, should have a shirt that reads “Dim-A- Lot.”

In a few weeks we shall “fiesta el-holiday-o Cinco D. May-o”; honoring the Mexican inventor of Miracle Whip.

Funny, I missed that one, but many polititions (and others who speak in public) say stupid things (often famously). When I was Timmy’s age I used to read extensively in the unabridged dictionary about many things, and followed the etymology of many words. `That’s how I learned about sex. (parents were embarrassed by the subject)./~ My 2 years of Latin in college were very useful in vocabulary building, but my grandfather (a professor of Latin and Greek) taught me to count to 100 in Latin when I was around 5.

And among the lost things (not backed up) are the shortcuts to the recipe page, the page with all Xtech’s instructions, etc) :-(

I think Timmy needs a dictionary, not a Latin textbook.

Timmy can go to myspellit.com, the spelling words for spelling bees are separated by language of origin.

Nevermind, they probably can’t figure out how to get online.

You’re right, Timmy needs a regular dictionary because regular dictionaries include the roots of the word.
