Julie Larson began writing The Dinette Set comic in 1990, then called Suburban Torture, offering a satire on middle class culture. The Dinette Set became syndicated in 1997. When asked where Julie gets all of her ideas, she admits there is only one way to write a daily comic: write about what you know. "I make no bones about who’s really talking in The Dinette Set," says Julie, who is writer, director and cast of The Dinette Set. "If we can’t make fun of ourselves, who will?"

I see they needed the wire brushes and hair Xfolient for Ma (like one might use if stripping furniture to refinish). I always put on some makeup and comb my hair if I expect to see a bunch of strangers anywhere. My lover and my friends know my face, so all that is unnecessary and wasteful. I just comb; he keeps his hair colored bacause he wants to look more capable to his customers. I prefer it natural and the color stains the sheets. My only problem is not growing much hair (even eyebrows need pencil, and eyeliner to make up for lack of dark lashes) when I wear makeup. Some blush on my lips and cheeks is nice too.

I really did not want to mention (Brain Bleach anyone?) that they seem to be saving a huge tank of exfoliated skin (for ? a science experiment?)

@GymShoe
Burl doesn’t miss a chance to take digs at Ma (nor does she of him). He had to know there’d be plenty of chance with her getting “made up”.
I actually don’t think it makes much difference, but I see it in photos (and even in the faces of people who judge that way). People in our reenactment group actually prefer to be natural; after all, in ancient times, only THOSE women painted their faces ;-D
