Julie Larson began writing The Dinette Set comic in 1990, then called Suburban Torture, offering a satire on middle class culture. The Dinette Set became syndicated in 1997. When asked where Julie gets all of her ideas, she admits there is only one way to write a daily comic: write about what you know. "I make no bones about who’s really talking in The Dinette Set," says Julie, who is writer, director and cast of The Dinette Set. "If we can’t make fun of ourselves, who will?"

It would be better to put the cooling rack behind the counter…

The rack IS out of the reach of children – the childish Burl, however, is another matter . . .
(The joys of dentures – a mouthfull of bubbling plastic and a charred tongue, but you can scoff red-hot cookies!)

Maybe it is behind the counter…. where the only “children” who can reach it are at least 5’ 3"….
I can’t really follow the drawing, but isn’t that a low glass case behind Burl?
Then again, are there cookies cooling on top of it?
It looks like the rest are behind what looks like another counter behind that…
maybe.
It’s possible this panel has been re-used and altered so many times the original lines are lost.
At least, this time the balloons point to the correct speakers…
but…. sigh….
in the wrong order. Burl answers Joy before she opens her mouth.
Of course, they HAVE been married a long time, right?

Why am I reminded of the news photos of the sinkhole in FL when I see Burl/Joy’s faces? Sucking in and consuming everything around. Ugh!
Dear friends, the best news of the day is that my myeloma is still in remission. Any day without cancer is a good day. Thank you, Lord, for giving me this day.

It’s amazing how many adults take cookies for “the kids” then go off and eat one themselves. Once in a while Devin would get one he didn’t like, Well I didn’t either so most of it got tossed.
Joy needs to get the recipe for them and have Burl watch her bake them in her new teddy….

@SusanSunshine
Glad it brought back fond memories for you. The only good ones about my Volare were bringing my eldest home in it and when it finally gave up the ghost it waited until I was off the expressway.

I’m surprised that the guy didn’t charge them for the cookie. He’s probably just as clueless as Burl the overgrown child. lol

Way to go! Continue on with a good outlook on life that too many take for granted.

So much for “nice” comments; let’s move to the moron.
.
That cookie is probably “crunchless” because it’s so hot and the chips in it a lava-like so now they’ll threaten to sue the store for burns to Burl’s mouth.
.
He does have a good sweatshirt on. Maybe he tried out for the tumbling team at some point and got the shirt as a consolation prize? Or did he just get it at Big Lots?

I’m sure even Burl KNEW those were not samples (as they are really large). He’ll take anything within reach, regardless.
@Mikie, we all need to be proactive on our health. I am not even finding it difficult to be vegan while I’m at home and dining alone. I still have not tried the tofu, or either color of miso, but it has not been quite a month yet. I bought more egg white yesterday, so had breakfast of a garlic and mushroom omelet (5 big cloves sliced and sauteed) with 1/2 bag of spinach steamed and jicama sticks with a sprinkle of fresh squeezed lime. I know it will be hard when I travel (regular cooking is more difficult in someone else’s kitchen).

This one looks like a mash up of two different drawings. The bottom of the cases don’t match and Susan is right, there are cookies sort of in the case. This must ber a new bakery in town. All the other bakeries know not to put food within reach of the Pennys!
