Julie Larson began writing The Dinette Set comic in 1990, then called Suburban Torture, offering a satire on middle class culture. The Dinette Set became syndicated in 1997. When asked where Julie gets all of her ideas, she admits there is only one way to write a daily comic: write about what you know. "I make no bones about who’s really talking in The Dinette Set," says Julie, who is writer, director and cast of The Dinette Set. "If we can’t make fun of ourselves, who will?"

Yes, it’s an honor. And you can see how well Burl is progressing in his recovery from the ankle injury.
I womder if Burl has some really, really incriminating photos of someone. Else why does he still have a job?

I, too, wonder how naive his superiors are…
Good morning, Mikie2

I had the boss for dinner once. He was such a big guy, I had leftovers the whole month.
Long-pig soup
Long-pig stew
Long-pig salad
Long-pig sandwiches
Long-pig casserole…

This has very little to do with TDS other than perhaps the other day they were discussing the weather but rather my late-night musing about winter along the Texas Gulf Coast. Seasonal temps are in the 40’s to 60’s, which means we can actually spend time outdoors without the heat, humidity and mosquitoes. No West Nile virus, no St. Louis Encephalitis and no 94 deg and 94% combo! During the summer we want to send the Vatican a petition nominating Willis Carrier for sainthood.
I do rather get a kick out of the flossy home and garden mags showing folks sitting around a copper fire pit sipping a limited production California Pinot Noir from Riedel glasses, and while they’re three feet from the fire, the smoke isn’t choking them out. Who lives like that? I’ll admit I’m not a “two-buck chuck in a paper cup” guy, but really. Anyway, it’s nice and I enjoy it.

Did you have some fava beans and a nice Chianti with him?

I have to admit to some befuddlement myself….
First, where IS this guy?
The speech ballooon seems to be coming from the person at the table… but that looks like Dale….
and Marlene is talking about when Burl takes “US” to dinner, as though Dale is sitting next to her.
So the regional manager either looks like Dale, and the real Dale isn’t in the picture…
or he’s is sitting somewhere behind Joy…. but she seems to be at the end of the table.
As for the Find-It the finials are all I see too…. but usually a normal part of the picture doesn’t count.
So maybe yesterday a picture and no clue, today a clue and no picture?
Unless someone sees it?

Mikie — there are people around here… not in my social circle…
who have outdoor fireplaces, chimeneas and the like…
and the reason they don’t choke is that the cold night wind of Northern CA whips the smoke away.

Got to be Burl’s boss….Joy doesn’t wear her good cologne for just any event.
.
Isn’t that Ma cracking wise about the expense account? And maybe…..just maybe……Burl is trying to fix Ma up with his boss (new Boss?; new “pictures” needed) to reatain his position in the UStore it corporate hierarchy.

not sure about the find-it.
after I read Joy’s shirt, I stopped looking.

True, nothing there seems appropriate for an “honored guest” and all of the speech bubbles seem a little misdirected. Joy seems to like that as her favorite scent. (washing is better, but even her clothes just get a rinse).
I have a little owl shaped chiminea back home (never lit a fire in it). I just got dressed when he did this morning (right after washing breakfast dishes) and he’s taking me over to visit at former employer’s after his first call. I checked in during night earlier, but just briefly at BS.

Today the Daily Herald announced it will be dropping 3 of 5 comics… and adding 3 new ones….They want our help in picking the 3 to be dropped…
.
One of their nominations is TDS… They say it is offensive to some seniors. I don’t agree but I will suggest they drop it because it is only in B&W and is so small that you can’t get the detail. I came to the internet when they shrunk it by 1/2 the last redesign….
.
I hope JULIE does not drop the detail we love… to please the papers…. ! ! !

Ditto to that! I much prefer to have all my toons on line, anyway! I dropped the local paper even before I decided not to adopt another bird (and that is mostly all it was good for (little news or comics, and the grocery flyers were sufficing for perches). I still read AZ Central’s site for my favorite King sindication strips, but signing in at other PCs is a pain so I don’t read all 10 of those every day and seldom comment.
