Julie Larson began writing The Dinette Set comic in 1990, then called Suburban Torture, offering a satire on middle class culture. The Dinette Set became syndicated in 1997. When asked where Julie gets all of her ideas, she admits there is only one way to write a daily comic: write about what you know. "I make no bones about who’s really talking in The Dinette Set," says Julie, who is writer, director and cast of The Dinette Set. "If we can’t make fun of ourselves, who will?"

Tin Foyal? A mimeograph? Fruit of the Loon? This one is chock full of funny!

The only way Burl could trade online and end up with $20,000 is if he started with $100,000.

I had a similar thought.

Took me a while to get ‘tin foyal.’ (To be fair, I am British)

Of course, not one of the four knows what the heck Bill was actually trading.
Baseball cards?
Or just “stuff” . like… I’ll give you this pair of old shoes for that electric guitar….
which you trade for a ’97 Impala…
easy!
Pacopuddy … I’d think it takes Americans a while too.
I HOPE that’s Joy’s misspelling, not Julie’s.

There’s an old saying about farming, “How do you make a small fortune in farming? Start with a large fortune.”
Look at Dale’s lower lip. The child is actually pouting!

Maybe they can trade the HO HO’s . Do they even make mimeograph machines anymore?I have a roll of tin foyle I’ll sell for 10.00 it’s at least 5 yrs old and crumpled on the ends. Hay it’s a start..

The reference to a mimeograph on their board took me back to when I was in school back in the ’60s. I remember the mimeographed sheets with purple ink… Everybody would smell the paper because of the pleasant smell of the ink.
Then I did some research and found that those weren’t mimeographs at all, they were “spirit duplicators” (also known as “ditto machines”). Wikipedia’s entry On spirit duplicators even mentions the fragrance of the pages.

I have an IBM Seletric I can sell them! 4 type balls included (and if you know what they are…….take your meds, vitamins and don’t fall).

I think Burl should do it because in less six months the series would feature The Pennys living out of their car

The theme today seems to be “out of date” and I still have a couple of old Beta tapes that I never got transfered to another media (commercial films taped from TV) and I remember Sam Spade on the radio (old detective show). Back when I was editor for PTA newsletters for my kids grade and high schools, I typed and drew all the illustrations on those wax sheets.

Bill would not be making $20,000 on the stock market. Maybe he DOES have some valuable collections he’s “trading” on Ebay, or maybe he’s doing something more nefarious (explaing why he won’t share).

I remember getting a buzz off of the smell of mimeograph ink from freshly pressed paper. It’s the little things in life like tin foyal that make me get up every day. I’d be surprised if she found one of theses machines. lol

Check the Risograph page on Wikipedia. It is the digital next generation of ink forced through a digitally perforated master. Every church has one.
