Julie Larson began writing The Dinette Set comic in 1990, then called Suburban Torture, offering a satire on middle class culture. The Dinette Set became syndicated in 1997. When asked where Julie gets all of her ideas, she admits there is only one way to write a daily comic: write about what you know. "I make no bones about who’s really talking in The Dinette Set," says Julie, who is writer, director and cast of The Dinette Set. "If we can’t make fun of ourselves, who will?"

Yes, yes, I can sure see where his figure just screams “I’m a picky eater!”

Burl’s a picky eater, alright. He picks at food from the time he wakes up until the time he goes to bed. It’s hard work maintaining his level of corpulence.

Can anyone explain the significance of the “Kohler” on Burl’s sweatshirt? That he will eat anything but the kitchen sink? That’s a stretch. Usually, the labels fit the subject matter very nicely.
I see what could be a Kohler faucet on the sink. That’s not likely either.
Love corned beef. It’s death on a plate, though. Maybe the cabbage absorbs the sodium and fat and hurries it through your lower tract. Yeah, that’s it. It’s okay then. Sorry for the TMI.

In a larger version of this comic on another website, the “C” of “4-Leaf Clover” looks almost like a “G”
The clover is near the elbow on Joy’s sleeve.
Joy Penny is so clueless that she doesn’t even realize that her husband, Burl, is not a picky eather.
Is what Marlene is wearing a Halloween costume top? It does say “Keep away from flame.”
The cheap folks in this comic buy their clothing at 99 Cents Stores and at factory seconds outlets.
The logos and words on their clothing and accessories don’t have anything to do with the real thing.

I think I know, Kohler’s motto is “buy it for looks, buy it for life”. Would you buy Burl for his looks?

Thanks, ejcapulet. I wouldn’t buy Burl for his looks if he was the best looking guy on Earth.
