And it will take the four of you all 3 hours…

Ah the hardware store, one of the last refuge of man. I made the mistake of taking the wife there and she discovered all sorts of stuff a woman can use. Not many retreats left. Oh, did I mention I was stupid enough to take my wife fishing this year?

Did the store naturally close or did they close when they saw this crew coming?

The Ace store near my house went out of business a few months ago – after having had the weirdest business hours I ever saw. About the only people who could shop there on weekdays were stay-at-homes, and high school kids cutting class.

The Ace is here is too expensive, I don’t know how they stay in business. I guess people are too lazy to cross the bridge over to Home Depot and Loews.

This is exactly how people in central Illinois are. They can’t go anywhere without asking everyone they know if they want to come along. God help you if you go anywhere without asking, you’ll never hear the end of it. I just wish I could hear the slow, very slow drawl of the central Illinois accent I’m sure that Joy, Burl and the rest have.

Back in March 1991, I was on my way back to Los Angeles from Huntsville, Alabama and I traveled by bus.

I changed buses in Muskogee and had to wait in the store that was used as a bus stop.

There were several local people in the lounge area watching a TV. An infomercial was on which I had seen before and I told the people that they were watching a half-hour commercial.

A big guy who was apparently not very bright said in a whiny voice, “It’s not a commercial; it’s on every week.”

He did fit the “Okie from Muskogee” stereotype. I have met a lot of people from Muskogee who didn’t fit the “Okie” stereotype.

The franchise chain of Ace Hardware stores here in NE Oklahoma close at 6:00 PM on Sundays.

Is Joy Penny’s watch 3 hours behind? Someone in the store is just turning the Closed sign over at the entrance.
