This one made me laugh out loud more than once, and then I sent it to my husband. Back in the ‘60s I was one of a group of very young women working as clerks/typists/secretaries for a branch of a major insurance company. We were being sexually harrassed (before the concept ) and one day I led the group in distributing our grievances along with the coffee at the managers’ meeting. There was silence in the room for a long time, then a roar went up. Our painfully straight-arrow Branch Manager was on the war-path with his management team. The results were that, one, the harrassment stopped and, two, an “Employee of the Month” was instituted. Guess who the first EoM was? The funny thing was, my clueless boss asked me to write my own “tribute.” I was only 18 or 19 but knew how cheesy this was. So I wrote one, alright, basically a one-page expose of their sad hypocrisy. When I showed it to him he read it, sighed, and said, “OK. I’ll write it.” I believe I was the only EoM, but at least the harrassment stopped.
