When it comes to computers, you have to choose your battles. I’m a programmer, and a good one, but I don’t do hardware or operating systems. I program in Visual Basic whenever I can, Fortran when I have to, and hide from C++ whenever it comes near me.

I hope you have spare briefs, dear Dilly (and the same goes for INGSOC). Bob the Dinosaur is being ruthlessly efficient at the underwear rip-off. I shall say nothing about my relationship with computers….

I had to take fortran in the late 1980s. It’s a great deal like BASIC. I taught myself how to program in BASIC, but no need for either it or fortran in years.
I’ve built a large number of computers for people. It’s safer to do that than to try to put up with the screwups that the premade ones seem to love. HP, for example, seems to love spyware, but claims it’s to help the user. Snort.

I’m the first to admit that I am indeed a complete idiot..

You can’t be a complete idiot — after all, nobody is perfect. :)

At college and university I used Fortran, Perl and Pascal. BASIC I used as a kid. I think Perl’s the only one still useful, not that I remember any of it, as I never had any need to use it after graduating.
