At least four times a year, I get a huge promotional flyer in the mail from one of the local big car dealerships. It has a cheap key glued to it, and promises that if I attend their “big celebration”, I can try the key to see if I win a new car- and I’m guaranteed to win any of an assortment of prizes, including a cruise, a new home, and a Walmart gift card.
Of course, reading the fine print shows that the minimum value of the gift card is $5, and of course you know that’ll be the majority of the prizes handed out. A paltry sum to pay to get a bunch of people interested in a new car into your dealership and within earshot of your sales crew!

Hey, I’ve got one of those ‘emeralds’. I got it on a pitch just like this one, probably in the late 70’s. Wonder if it has appreciated.

No worse than the pitch for the local casino that advertises: “This is where the winners go!” Funny.
