This would be a good one for XKCD what-if… I don’t think it could cause an ice age, but disrupting the Earth’s rotation is definite; we could end up with a day that was two weeks long, like the Moon’s. Would the orbits of the Earth and Moon around each other be affected as well?

The moon helps to regulate our rotation. Without a moon we’d be spinning much faster. Connecting the earth to the moon would severely slow down our rotation. Killing most of the life on this planet.
