    Good morning fellow DT fans…

MM/Mysta appears to be content without her ‘powers’. That should take Tracy to the farm and save it from Hy Pressure and the boys!

Wonder what their real intent is? I know they were hot for a space coupe.

    Good morning, VB!

It is not really clear how long in the current version of the Tracyverse Clone-Moon Maid had been under the “care” of the bad doctors, nor how much time has passed since Moon Maid was blown up in the car bombing, though the latter must be counted in years. Nor is it clear how long Stellaluna and Retik have worked for the bad doctors, nor why, nor what their background really is.
And yet I wonder, how could they not have realized sooner that the bad doctors Sail and Ghote were not altogether 100% pure?
And is it just my impression, or is Clone-Moon Maid starting to look more like Honeymoon than she did before?

“MM/Mysta appears to be content without her ‘powers’.”

Gotta think Mysta will get her powers back eventually. Since her character debuted in 1963, her laser abilities have always been a big part of her identity. For the purposes of the ongoing story (assuming she sticks around), it will be hard to think of Mysta, functionally at least, as no different than an average Earth woman.

Imagine Samantha on Bewitched without her powers. Still cute and quirky, but not nearly as interesting, and I doubt the show would have lasted very long.

Same thing with Mysta. What “sparks” the imagination about her are her laser abilities, and the fact that she can physically dominate bad guys. Without all that, she’s reduced to eye candy. To have staying power with the fans, she needs to get the spark back in those fingers, IMO.

Besides, Mysta’s lost her moon home, she’s lost her moon family, she’s lost her earth family, she’s lost the life she used to have. Must she lose her peculiar moon abilities, too? Just doesn’t seem right.

Anyway, that’s my opinion. I know others may disagree, and I could be wrong.

One way the situation might be reversed would be to explain that Mysta’s powers are linked somehow to the moon, and that she has to make periodic trips to luna (as she did throughout the Space Era, which explains why her powers never faded in those days) to maintain her spark. That would potentially be an interesting way to restore Honeymoon’s abilities, too, come to think of it.

I think she always looked a lot like Honeymoon. Maybe it’s just more noticeable today.

I’m pretty sure that it’s just the lack of sunlight, if she has any legitimacy at all as Moon Maid. I know that Mysta thinks it might have been caused by being away from the moon too long, that that’s just a false assumption. She seems to have forgotten that she needs sunlight on he antennae to replenish her “powers.”

I’m not so sure that Mysta will remain as an ongoing character in the strip once the current story arc(s) end, but I somehow have a feeling that she and Stellaluna and Retik will try to somehow make another attempt to fly off to the moon. I don’t see how they could do it, short of stealing/borrowing the Space Coupe from Smith Industries, but Mysta has already taken a land vehicle from there, so maybe she might do it if she felt there were extenuating circumstances.

Wild guess—Mysta’s participation in the current storyline will end with her, Retik and Stellaluna allowed to take a Space Coupe to search for where the Moon People went—not to be seen again for years.

y’know.. MAYBE the shorter storyline limit may have been a good idea.. this is just dragging out for waaaay too long already!

we STILL need to straighten out the wheaton farm angle, the retik and stellaluna angle, the FRITZ ANN angle, the moon headed guy angle, the sail and ghote angle, and the whole moon maid lite mess.

my head hurts just trying to think about all the LOOSE ANGLES involved!

byw, after a MONTHS long absence.. i FINALLY return to the top ten!! yay me lol :)

I think there actually was at least one episode in which Samantha was without her powers.

It’s been explained in this forum that Mysta’s powers are solar-generated.

I believe that the Wheaton farm and Fritz Ann angles are connected to each other.

Last few days were Junior stumbling across his current wife, Sparkle. Calls Dick Tracy who, with Bob Oscar, shows a lot more emotion over the find than Junior did. Curious.
    .
Sisyphos and Willy007 do an interesting job of summarizing the two opposing positions regarding Mysta’s real identity. “Current version” and “Clone-Moon Maid” strongly indicate that Sisyphos is convinced that Mysta is a fake.
    .
And I know that there are many who agree.
    .
While Willy007 seems uncommitted in his current post, he has eloquently argued in the past in favor of Mysta’s being the “real deal.” Even today, he mentions that, having lost her moon home, her moon family, her earth family, for her to lose her moon powers, too? What else is there for her to be other than “eye candy”?
    .
Indeed, early in this arc, that was a big discussion. That, in the current Team Tracy’s hands, Mysta has turned into one heck of a piece of “eye candy”! (Sorry, Gould fans, but Mysta didn’t look nearly as good in his day as she does today)
    .
Probably as good a time as any to restate my position, which is:
    .
It makes no sense to bring Mysta back unless she is the “real deal.”
    .
Granted, there is a decided lack of evidence, one way or the other, whether she is real or fake.
    .
But, as I have said before, what would be the point of having a fake Moon Maid running around in Tracyville? She would be just as shunned by the characters of the Tracyverse as she is by those who oppose her in this blog. Which is why, if she does turn out to be a fake, I have speculated in the past that, if she sticks around, she is headed toward becoming a Tracy criminal.
    .
Not that I want to see her as a criminal – not at all! But, what use would be her character if she is anything other than the “real deal”?
    .
(And yes, I consider a clone to be a fake. Someone else argued that point quite well for me, noting that a clone is, indeed, a second body, regardless of where the DNA allegedly came from)
    .
Indeed, when it comes right down to it, this is the situation: Like it or not, there is a Mysta the Moon Maid character running around in Tracyville.
    .
For her to be an imposter would make her a criminal. For her to be a fake would make her pointless – as well as groom her for becoming a criminal.
    .
I’m still on record as hoping that Mike and Joe will finally reveal that she is, in fact, the “real deal.”
    .
Paraphrasing Still Da Man! from yesterday, using the famous Mark Twain quote: “Reports of (Mysta’s) demise (were) greatly exaggerated!”

I’m enjoying the ongoing nature of the story. Yet I’m the exact opposite when It comes to comic BOOKS. I yearn for the good old “done In one Issue” stories of my youth.

…it will be hard to think of Mysta, functionally at least, as no different than an average Earth woman.

I don’t know — seems since the actual Moon landing, Moon Maid was reduced to a background character by none other than Chet Gould, himself. And, as time moved-on under Collins/Fletcher, she was further removed from her moon origins until she perished (?) in that car explosion.

Honestly, I’m still thinking this “MM” is for real, and since Moon Valley is trashed, that gives her an opportuinity to exist in this strip as an ordinary Earth woman,..

    tsull, make up your mind!
First you shout out “Sweatbox ending” whenever you think the story is ending too fast, and now that you’re proven wrong, the story is taking too long for you.
I have to think it’s just your dislike of Mysta that has you begging for a wrap up.

Me? I love this story, with all it’s characters, with varied motives.
We still don’t know who the mysterious villain is behind the scenes (the one manipulating Drs. Sail and Ghote, and whose latest employee, Melies, has just appeared).
And what the villain has in mind for Mysta!
No, this story is just reaching a boil!
    Mm-mmm good!
