    Mornin’, VB.
    .
I just had a thought…. what if the pedophile portion is yet another and unrelated to the other two tracks, add in story bit. If so, what a juggling act.
Step right up, ladies and gennilmen !

Hmmm, I’m thinking the two stories will intersect very soon. Perhaps Toad will hit a ball into the cemetery and a clew of some kind will be found.

Mornin’ VistaBill, Mikeyj, Gweedo, margueritem, etc.!
Gosh, I don’t see the confusion some of you seem to.
The story is moving straight ahead, in a natural progression; maybe today’s events are taking place the day after the dinner meeting in the restaurant.
I do have one COMPLAINT, folks…
I don’t read Mike’s Yahoo page specifically to AVOID SPOILERS – like the pedophile element somebody seems to talk about every day.
I’m sorry Mike mentioned it, because he’s got a great murder mystery plot going, and waiting for it to appear is distracting from what we’re reading.
(Besides, it doesn’t take Sherlock Holmes to guess the motive for the murder being an act of child molestation.)
If you have to talk about something you read elsewhere, PLEASE – note that it’s A SPOILER so those of us who don’t want to read it can skip over it.
Think of it this way: you’ve paid way too much for the tickets to a movie you really want to see, and as you’re sitting watching the film, the putz sitting behind you – who just saw the movie – starts telling everyone around what’s going to happen next.
    See what I mean?

You asked: “Do Americans REALLY play baseball in the snow?”
    -——————————————————-
I instantly thought of a recent column by ESPN’s Rick Reilly about minor league ball player Vance Albitz, who’s begun collecting gloves and balls and sending them to US forces in Afghanistan, to help soldiers deal with the lonliness and isolation.
Accompanying the story was a photo of a medic, standing in the snow, playing catch.
It’s a great story, and the drive seems to be, uh, snowballing.
Read the story. And if you can, help.

We have an annual snowshoe softball tournament that draws dozens of teams. Haven’t played, but it’s a hoot to watch. However I have played in a charity golf tournament when the snow was over a foot deep. That was a lot of fun. A snow-machine makes a great golf cart. As for Toad, I’m thinking the kids in that neighborhood don’t have a lot of other “safe” things that are fun to do.

—Based on Chicago’s Graceland Cemetery? But seriously, a “vacant lot” where kids can play in a modern city is all but an anomaly (empty lots of any kind are now rare in big cities unless maybe in a distressed zone, e.g., parts of Detroit). I grew up in Chicago and near suburbs, and vacant lots of my early youth vanished before my eyes as new housing subdivisions proliferated after WW II and as businesses, light industry, and shopping malls gobbled up real estate….

    @Sisyphos

sisyphos, isnt mole’s underground hotel in a “less desirable part of the city”? i wouldnt imagine that all the homeless people who reside there would gather in a well to do section of the city. i’d be willing to lay odds on the fact that mole’s hotel is in a rather run-down, somewhat shoddy neighborhood of town.. maybe a few blocks or so from the main streets with all the shopping etc. also, it IS obvious that todays story does take place after the dinner nightshade as evidenced by toad already in the “playground area” (for lack of a better term). interesting to see how this weaves together, and how sweatbox and everything else fall into place.

and also nightshade, an apology.. i know that not everyone on here reads the yahoo group messages, but i and others have reposted comments/posts that mike has put up on the group many times before. in fact i beleive that when mike first stated, MONTHS ago, that there was going to be a pedophile story in/around january sometime, i had reposted his comment even then.. several months back. i had brought it up again over the last few days because as everyone knows, january is quickly coming to an end and there was no pedophile story, and mike has also said that the story with george takei would take 8 weeks to wrap up… so naturally i would think that somehow sweatbox is either tied into the takei story or HE is the pedophile somehow.

also, as we all know as well, mike had said that moon maid will take center stage once again and HER story would take another 8 weeks and (if i recall correctly) wrap up around april. so i would imagine that she will show up relatively soon.. and i THINK the “measuring stick” for that one will be when we see honeymoon again, cause remember after visiting moon valley she SWORE she would find her mother!

In the cemetery is the body of our victim and killer. Only the killers family is now famous and willing to do anything to keep the secret

Yes, PLEASE! Some commenters seem to take way too much joy on being the first to tell us what “Mike says” at some other place on the net, and then reminding us of it constantly.

In the old days kids would take advantage of any break in totally inhospitable weather to get outside and play anything. The start of a snowstorm wouldn’t hold them back but they probably give it up once the snow covered the ground and the ball could get lost in it. Nowadays however, it seems they are more content to spend even the most beautiful of days inside looking at a TV or computer screen.
