Artist Joe Staton and writer Mike Curtis co-author "Dick Tracy," the classic comic strip distributed by Tribune Media Services.
Created by Chester Gould in 1931, "Dick Tracy" is one of America's most-enduring pop-cultural icons, noteworthy for its steadfast, chisel-jawed hero and the gruesome gallery of villains he and his fearless team of Crimestoppers must outwit to put behind bars.
When longtime "Dick Tracy" artist and writer Dick Locher retired from the strip after 32 years of meritorious service, fans Staton and Curtis jumped at the chance to don the yellow fedora and trench coat. Staton has been drawing comic books for many years and has more than 1,000 credits under his belt. Curtis, who has been writing comics since 1986, is the only former law-enforcement officer to work on "Dick Tracy." Both creators are excited about the new--and dangerous--adventures they have in store for Dick Tracy and his Crimestoppers.

So he isn’t inviting himself along, just giving a mother and daughter a chance for a good evening together? Cool.

Mole told her HE was given a family dinner. He says he thinks that she and Toad would like to go. (along is implied)

What on Earth does one fry that is spikey and green?

Great art today, and I enjoy seeing Mole happy. The coloring? Not so hot.

So very Dickensian! I know; I’ve said this before. But it’s true. The tale of Mr. Mole and Mrs. Spencer and young Toad could so easily have been among the many interwoven sub-plots, dark yet humor-rich, in one of those gigantic novels by Charles Dickens. The very names reek of Dickens! And just as in those great works of the 19th century, so here in the 21st century the ending doesn’t necessarily have to be a happy one for all involved, though it may be and I hope it will be.

I’d suggest you watch “Chopped” a couple of times. The chefs on that show fry things I’ve never even heard of, in all shapes and colors. Love that show. Sweet Genius is also a favorite for weird ingredients. If Mole watched t.v., I think he’d like that show as well.

Certainly is, orphaned kids; people living in poverty; stark, dreary settings and people just holding on, hoping for a better future

Going by the age of her daughter, I’d have thought Mrs Spencer would be at least 10 years younger than she looks…. but, that’s not a bad thing, it makes her a better match for Mole ;)

I enjoy these brief side stories. They provide variety and allow Mike to explore the humanity of the characters. That said, I hope this night out for Mole, Rose and Toad doesn’t go sour.

Some of you were wondering what this pic was about, yesterday, so, I’ve reposted it, with a little Gouldian aide ;)
