Artist Joe Staton and writer Mike Curtis co-author "Dick Tracy," the classic comic strip distributed by Tribune Media Services.
Created by Chester Gould in 1931, "Dick Tracy" is one of America's most-enduring pop-cultural icons, noteworthy for its steadfast, chisel-jawed hero and the gruesome gallery of villains he and his fearless team of Crimestoppers must outwit to put behind bars.
When longtime "Dick Tracy" artist and writer Dick Locher retired from the strip after 32 years of meritorious service, fans Staton and Curtis jumped at the chance to don the yellow fedora and trench coat. Staton has been drawing comic books for many years and has more than 1,000 credits under his belt. Curtis, who has been writing comics since 1986, is the only former law-enforcement officer to work on "Dick Tracy." Both creators are excited about the new--and dangerous--adventures they have in store for Dick Tracy and his Crimestoppers.

Amen.
Perhaps Belle won’t die after all.

That is one of the many reasons why Dick Tracy is a legend!
Thank you Team Tracy!

good morning VB. Maybe she’ll make it but I hope BB did not.

A good cop—that’s our Tracy! Maybe now Cinnamon Knight/David and Black Piranha/Stephanie can get themselves on a more real life track….

I think Belle is going to pull through. Also, if she turns State’s Evidence against Broadway. She might also avoid doing some jail time.

I’ve enjoyed this story but am a little confused about what happened here. Obviously Tracy was tracking BP and CK, which strongly implies the costumed duo had contacted him in hopes of setting up an arrest of Belle and her accomplices. Assuming this is what happened and BP and CK were cooperating to help the police, why would CK offer to give himself up to Tracy?

My guess is that he feels guilty, about what happened to Belle, not to mention getting his Gf? Wife? shot up! (Hey Staton, are they married, or what?)

About panel 3
My take on it is that Belle was unaware that Broadway intended to open fire on the costumes. I think she thought he was going to abduct them, using the armored car, and take them someplace.
I believe she intended to ask Broadway if they could get Black Piranha to join her and Broadway, or in some other way recruit her. I think she really likes Stephanie. Not unlike her relationship with Harley, or Harley’s relationship with Ivy
They were also planning to see what her connection to The Cinnamon Knight was.
It was Cinnamon Knight they were interested in taking out, since he is the crime fighter.
Unfortunately for her, Broadway had other plans. He wanted them all DEAD!

well, the way I see it is that Belle was having 2nd thoughts about the whole thing for some time: The first clue was when she was so pleased that Bates had decided to postpone the hit until AFTER Xmas; if Belle were really the sociopath her (ex?) BF is, she’d have been upset, cause she’d be impatient to get the thing done; instead, she had a huge smile and sounded relieved. The next clue was how she was enjoying the thought that she and Steph might team up someday; she seemed totally sincere (Something yesterday’s strip confirmed) And the best clue that Belle had changed her mind was the strip where the hit actually took place… look at the pic carefully, Belle is at least 14 or 15 feet AHEAD of Steph, yelling to her BF “Broadway it’s me!” A) She wouldn’t have said that if she didn’t know about the hit (She’d have said something like “Broadway, what are you DOING?”)
B) If Belle hadn’t changed her mind , she would NEVER have taken the lead, she would have let the other 2 costumes go on ahead, to bait the trap; whereas, she put herself between the gunners and their 2 targets, no doubt hoping that Bates would spare Stephany and likely recruit her to the gang (as you suggest), not realising that she was a 3rd target, all along! For these reasons, I believe that Belle was in earnest about wanting to make a friend of Steph!
