Chester Gould, a veteran cartoonist, began drawing his most legendary character, the dashing and daring Dick Tracy for the newspaper comics page in 1931. Modeled in the image of the innovative Sherlock Holmes, Gould was inspired to create new crime-fighting technology, including the two-way wrist TV, closed circuit TV police line-up and the engineless car that took Dick Tracy to the moon (both literally and figuratively).
Although many remember him with fond nostalgia, Dick Tracy, now written and illustrated by Dick Locher, continues to be relevant as he combines old-fashioned values with 21st century innovation to capture corporate crooks, computer pirates, polluters, skyjackers, gang members and terrorists.

Action aplenty! I’m amazed about the strength in Tracy’s left hand! Ennen’s getting uglier every day. I suppose she’s aging. Wonder how much longer before we find out how the trapeze levitates itself?

I guess a person-eating giant tiger can’t jump as high as DT, at least not when he’s really really scared.

According to the clown, the tiger hasn’t had anything to eat since the circus closed. ???? That’s one strange circus!

Omigod, whardin1960 you’re right! Can Charles Nelson Reilly be far away? Maybe when Pops removes his makeup, he’ll be Nipsey Russell…
Margueritem, you know what they say… “Big paws, big hind feet, big…”
Um, never mind.

Whomever drew the tiger’s paw must be the same person who has been drawing hands for the last few years. Same quality. Ludwig, I don’t know if I can take this for another month. Even I have limits!

We know this is Dick Tracy and not a DC Superhero, so it’s not “ONE LEAP WITH A SUDDEN BOUND” … taking them upward (?) So what force is it ?
Will this amazing propulsion secret ever be revealed by Dick Locher (?) or is it just another one of his Major Hoople style “whoppers”, that increasingly we must accept without question ?
Egad !

Fear, passivity, confusion, lack of command in a given situation. I have read all 9 of the collection books. How did Tracy get kidnapped? The writing is horrendous and I am losing hope. Both writer and artist need to be replaced or the strip needs to replaced with Dick Tracy classics. End the torment, now!

The tiny “snarl” next to the signatures makes it seem like the tiger is expressing contempt, both for the horrible way it’s been drawn (when the clip art isn’t being used), and for the absurd situation it has been written into.

Two days without dialog and I don’t miss it a bit.

U’d think the tiger would be more pissed off at Fee Fi 4 nearly pulling his tail off instead of going after Tracy. Story is starting 2 pick up some steam now…

Yesterday (panel 2), Tracy’s left hand - the one holding on to the trapeze - was as big as his head. Today it’s less than half that size. He’s in big trouble if it keeps shrinking.

We gather here at our leisure
To indulge ourselves a guilty pleasure
And read about that fabled detective
At which we love to hurl invective
We stare with a morbid fascination
At another ridiculous situation
Each day it gets more absurd
Both in deed and in word
Today we watch as they dangle
To keep from being mangled
By a tiger that doesn’t seem to be tryin’
Or maybe he sees just like Clarence the lion
Is that the Joker we see with Dick
‘cause that face is really sick
The panels, they seem to distort
Making Tracy’s arm seem really short
Even for Locher this is low
Can this be the mortal blow
That puts an end to Tracy’s long career
What’s that? Did I hear someone cheer
But I really shouldn’t complain
About this strip being lame
The strip has such promise
Yeh, and I’m Dylan Thomas
From yesterday, Thanks Sydney.

The tiger doesn’t have the helium in its skull to give him that extra lift.

well obviously the clown would not have put them in the cage had he known Tracy was capable of jumping seven feet straight up while holding another adult (who in spite of being an FBI agent is still too much a girl to save herself). Actually maybe it’s more than seven feet, since tigers are big and can jump too.
Man, what kind of syndicate allows this pap to run, losing papers and garnering web abuse every single day, day after day, without ever doing anything about it? Obviously they need to shut down the strip to take a tax writeoff on it or something.

No dialog is a definite improvement!
It doesn’t make the story line move any faster, but at least I can get through “reading” it faster everyday.

Where does the hilarity end and the next storyline begin????

Wow, since when did this strip went from being “Dick Tracy” to being “Pibgorn”? Another day with just action and no dialog!
Saucy1121 said, about 1 month ago
This somehow seems appropriate:
“The other day, I met a bear
Back in the woods, away back there.
He said to me: ‘Why don’t you run?
I see you don’t have any gun.”
And so I ran, away from there,
But right behind me was that bear.
I saw a tree and heaved a sigh,
but the nearest branch was 10 feet high.
And so I jumped into the air,
but missed that branch away up there.
Now don’t you fret and don’t you frown,
I caught that branch on the way back down.”
I learned that many years ago at a camp. It goes to the tune of “Sipping Cider” if you know that one.

MEMORIES>>>LIGHT THE CORNERS OF MY MIND…….I remember that from going to camp too, eons ago! Small world (or standard camp song!) … So, we have another month of this??! I hope Tracy gets out of the cage before too long. Sigh. This time last year was the “haunted mansion” storyline, which went through Christmas, so I suppose we should count our blessings.

Doesn’t Tracy’s arm look too short for his body? Oh yes, I forgot. The shrunken panels don’t give an artist like Locher much room to draw such details.

NAPERVILLE’S KEYSTONE COPS - (It’s long but it’s recent HISTORY)
Former Chief Pat Patton must be wondering what evil, disruptive force has hit the Police Department to introduce the current degree of comedic bungling since he Patton was “retired” by Commissioner Locher.
Could the Cophouse Mole who stole Patton’s pants (on 9-25-‘03) be back at HQ disrupting things again ?
Already at the Circus there’s deep cause for concern - -
A murder, Performers are frightened for their lives. A Police squad arrives to secure the crime scene, as Tracy confidently advises :
8-27-09 : “I’ve called for Police Security - - you’re all safe for the time being”. .. and then on
9-12-09 : “I’ll put Ringo under a 24 hour guard” !
Small comfort ! (You’d think he knew what he was talking about)
WHERE, Oh where did they go (?) All those heavily armed Officers we saw, before 9-18-09 when Mr.Pops the Clown pulled a gun ?
But this was not the first time that Chief Lizz’s Naperville cops FAILED to perform ! Like writer Locher they have a long pattern of “repetition” in failing to perform !
See :
1) Lizz (4-5-09 One Eye Jack) on phone “actioning” a police watch on Sunny Dell Acres - B.O. and Gertie in danger.
Where were they when Jack’s gang struck at night ?
But in case before -
2) Tracy (2-10-09) calling on Wrist Radio - “911 FAST”, for Dr.Noll shot by Angelorious.
They never arrived !
But immediately before, in the Braces/ Magnum Force case incompetence struck too
11-6-08 : “Back up” announces they had arrived but it was only the Squad Leader ! After the robot fight when Braces (11-28-08) held up Tracy … WHERE the heck was the SWAT team ?
But why be surprised ? Earlier, 2008 - Cole Lector case. Prominent citezens being kidnapped
Tracy (2-10-08) : ” Our Chief Liz is one of them. I’ve got a 27-7 guard on her … she’s SAFE at Headquarters”!
She WASN’T, she was kidnapped right there !
Another poster asked if Locher DISLIKES police ! Perhaps he does, more SPECIFICALLY … those created by Gould !
Sam is already on a back seat in the “Departure Lounge”, So is Chief Lizz now being “set up” to go too ??
WHO then will be the new CHIEF (?) Tracy’s message man - Lt.Teevo ? His chosen character ? Commissioner Locher could resurrect dead Frisky Frisk (see her 2-1-04) she has an “advantage” Lizz and Sam don’t. She’s prime, “designed” by Locher, and in an odd sort of way could provide what’s been missing, it’s called “female relief” in the strip. Relieving Tess of appearance in every story..
It would be a giant step for him, to heavily EMBOSS a “Dick Locher” PERSONA on the comic strip

The tiger is not hungry. He hasn’t eaten since the circus closed, but neither have any of the people – they’ve been standing around in the ring talking ever since, and they haven’t gotten hungry, so neither has he.
He is not trying to eat them; he is just being helpful – putting Ms. Ennen’s shoe back on for her. She dropped it.
