Chester Gould, a veteran cartoonist, began drawing his most legendary character, the dashing and daring Dick Tracy for the newspaper comics page in 1931. Modeled in the image of the innovative Sherlock Holmes, Gould was inspired to create new crime-fighting technology, including the two-way wrist TV, closed circuit TV police line-up and the engineless car that took Dick Tracy to the moon (both literally and figuratively).
Although many remember him with fond nostalgia, Dick Tracy, now written and illustrated by Dick Locher, continues to be relevant as he combines old-fashioned values with 21st century innovation to capture corporate crooks, computer pirates, polluters, skyjackers, gang members and terrorists.

Pussycat, pussycat what do you see
Why, two tasty meals just for me
Pussycat, pussycat what will you do
Have them tat-tar or maybe in a stew
Pussycat, pussycat have you no shame
Shame, shame? in a story that is beyond lame
Pussycat, pussycat isn’t that harsh
Not really, I mean, the story is a farce
Pussycat, pussycat your looking good
The artist finally drew me as he should
Pussycat, pussycat will you call it quits
I will if eating Tracy gives me the
Pussycat, pussycat that really offended
Then I guess it’s time this poem was ended

So Dirk has not decided yet how Tracy is going to get out of this one so he is going to bore is 3 - 5 days with ‘Dick in a cage’ drawings.

Maybe if he just slaps the nice kitty on the nose with a rolled up newspaper, it will go away.

I’ve been reading DT for over 40 years, and this is the first time that I’ve ever heard Tracy say that he’s “helpless” in a situation. Now some might say that Ms. Ennen made the comment, but since she calls Tracy by name in the first balloon, it must be him!
This is the most ludicrous, inane writing of this classic character I have ever seen. It’s as if Tracy switched places with his cartoon self from the early 60’s and Hemlock Holmes and the Re-Touchables are getting ready to crash in through the roof!
And that middle panel of Tracy looks like it was drawn by Will Elder in a 1950’s Mad parody!!!
Good Grief!

Maybe it was Kitty who was claiming to be helpless?
Like, as in, “I’m helpless to control my appetite for snooping coppers and meddling kids!”

watcha,
Sorry ! Remember you’re not reading ACTION JACKSON here, It’s Dawdling Dick Loafer doing the writing
You’ll have to watch Tracy in the cage for TWO more weeks.
Remember, Loafer likes to savor sluggish movement AND at a pace that reveals no more than ONE “tit-bit” per week..And there are TWO “tit-bits” still to come.
That’s the primary reason why his tales are so boring, new things take a long time to happen and move on, and the main crime is not omission, it’s multiple repetition.
And remember I’m predicting that it’s The Clown, Mr.Pops who will be killed by the Tiger. Similar to Red Hawk in June 2003
It’s repressed memory writing here, believing it’s new stuff.

The tiger in panel on looks like clip art with artist rendered teeth. “Nice KItty”???? Why is Tracy’s foot in place of his hand? And yet another clown close up. Maybe the clown will disguise himself as a giant peanut and be killed by a rogue elephant. At least that way no one can accuse DL of stealing from himself or Mr. Gould.

“Tracy as cat food” … considering he only met Tracy an hour ago, that’s pretty nasty. Tracy must make a lousy first impression.

Sounds like we’re in for a long two weeks. I think I’ll go back to Popeye where at least the ludicrousness moves along at a good pace.

I just did the survey and got turned into a “Genius”…which is actually kinda rad, in that I can scan strips back to 2000 or so. At first glance, Killian’s writing is not so bad…at least, the story moves forward. Not like this, where it seems like the underriding assumption is no one cares about the strip so it doesn’t have to make sense, be well drawn, or basically have any quality at all.
And dsped, I swear I was gonna write that same comment. Funny how even when a line isn’t interesting Locher can still repeat it endlessly.
Anyway I think they’re safe. With that underbite there’s no way the tiger could eat them.

Jumbobrain, thanks for clue-ing me in regarding that survey thing!
Regarding Apollo, it appears that in the latest installment, Matt is making a sly inside reference to the ransom note/death threats which Ringo received:

Forgive me for asking, but in that mid panel is Tracy already on his knees begging ?
Tracy’s at least six foot tall. Is a Tiger’s head 5’ 9” of the ground ? Lower Ribcage height at most, in pictures I’ve seen.
As AndyH40 has observed he’s acting cowardly like already confessed he’s “HELPLESS” … not at all a characteristic of this great cop. Particularly as he has his TASER straped to his wrist, which at FULL POWER should be sufficient to keep Kitty away !
But Tracy’s not an OAF, I guess I’ll leave that CAP for “BIG BOY” Locher ! He’s earned it !

My script was written in January, so no references to the “threatening notes” in the current DT storyline.
I’ve got a lot of lead time built into my strip deadline. I’m currently, artwise at least, about five weeks out.

MATTIE,
Your question above ! Is that an admission that you agree with the “general sentiment” on the board that Locher and Brozman are producing - CRAP-O ?
Looking to throw your hat in the ring (?) using the SAME strip that is dedicated as HOMAGE to the man, to push him out of the work ?
Not too long ago it was only supelatives, loftily calling his work (writing and art) - SUPERB !
“Wa’ ‘appen to di loyalty an’ allegiance, man” ? Yu pushing poor Dicky outa di studio windo’ in Naperville ! After di man done spend time to advise yu an’ all dat !
Yu stop banging yu head on di wall (?) an now tun too “co-bitch-us” (i.e. covetous) ?? ;-p

another extra bonus of genius status…if you go look at Gasoline Alley of Oct. 2001, Dick Tracy makes a guest appearance (in honor of his 70th anniversary). And he is a lot more interesting over there than he is in his home strip. Pity.

There once was a cop named DICK!
Who thought he was oh, so SLICK!
‘Til he was locked in a cage
With a tiger in a rage,
Now he’s just a puddle on the floor to LICK.
Soon, we hope.

Ok, back to report that I went through the archives and found Tracy in a cage with a tiger with an underbite on 6/17/2003.
How often does this happen to the poor guy?
436rge said, about 1 month ago
Tracy was trapped in a cage with wild animals before. He was in a cage with lions in one of his earliest stories back in July 7-17th 1932.
CougarAllen said, about 1 month ago
Hmm … in the 2003 episode Tracy was able to remember he has a two-way wrist teevee and call for backup. I guess that was before the brain damage….

Not only the Tiger in the cage “copy cat” scenario by Locher but in his THREE years of writing he has done TWO others as I’ve pointed out before, Al Kinda’s death scene (Aug 18 & 20, 2006) closly replicating that of the Brow, as in similar fashion he hits the American FLAG on the way down.
The other off course was The Queen of Diamonds (4-29-07 and 5-8-07) falling into a (Tug Boat) FUNNEL (smoke stack), not unlike Ugly Christine in the Bribery tale.
Go back in the Archives to the dates mentioned and see how “familiar” they both look to those earlier deaths.
The Brow ending must have really impressed 16 ywer old Dick Locher when he read it. Another unintended compliment to the man who’s creations he has savaged.
You’d think if he drops them he’d replace them with at least something equally good.
What has he put out here (?) “Girly man”, Lt. Teevo the secretarial “messanger”. Not an arrest to his name and he’s never even pulled a gun.
An in-strip replication of a certain politician ?

No. But I find it amusing that you JUMP to such an outrageous conclusion based on almost NO evidence.
Your continued “leaping” is seriously damaging your reputation as one who does A LOT of research before formulating your opinions.
Makes one question EVERYTHING you say…

You never have a bag of cat chow when you really need it.
Matthew, I’ve only seen one Apollo installment, but based on that one I would hazard a guess that it would be better than what we’re being served up here. That is, unless Apollo is based on the old “Batman” TV show from the ’60s. If that’s the case, we could be in a lot of trouble.

I’m not in the least bit worried about YOUR “questioning” everthing I say - (What’s new ?)
Of greater importance is what seems to be your AMBITION now that the VEIL has inadvertently slipped.

What were they called ? Ransom notes ?
