Chester Gould, a veteran cartoonist, began drawing his most legendary character, the dashing and daring Dick Tracy for the newspaper comics page in 1931. Modeled in the image of the innovative Sherlock Holmes, Gould was inspired to create new crime-fighting technology, including the two-way wrist TV, closed circuit TV police line-up and the engineless car that took Dick Tracy to the moon (both literally and figuratively).
Although many remember him with fond nostalgia, Dick Tracy, now written and illustrated by Dick Locher, continues to be relevant as he combines old-fashioned values with 21st century innovation to capture corporate crooks, computer pirates, polluters, skyjackers, gang members and terrorists.

Caught your eye, eh? Which one, Ringo, your medium-sized left eye or your extra-large right eye?
But we really should lighten up on Tracy. If you’ll remember, he’d just come home after a hard day of shooting a guy dead and was about to order a pizza when he was dragged by his family to the circus to “relax.” The poor guy has not had any food or water for roughly 4-and-a-half weeks now.

How many times have Tracy asked ‘I want answers and I want it now’ or ‘Spill it’
Oh my goodness gracious - look at Ringo’s face in panel 1 of today and panel 1 of yesterday.

Today strip is good. Finally we have a lot of dialogue with sense.

Yes, I have always had an eye for unusual imports. So I left my clerical job and ran away with the circus. Now I run the place.

It’s difficult to see this strip continue insulting Gould’s original work. In the late thirties and early forties, 150 newspapers carried the strip with 10 million readers. I’m revisiting the Real Dick Tracy with Vol 8 and with Vol 9 on order. I can’t believe a new artist and writer can revive or survive with another iteration with the failing of the newspapers. As of now, the comments are the engine that motivate the commentators, the strip is pretty much nothing but poor artwork and nonsense writing. This is my last comment.

That tells us in case we hadn’t noticed it, that litte has changed in the graphics (or story movement) other than alternating the amimals and the freaks periodically.Tracy has been in the Ring since week 3 and it took 5 further week (to week 8) of “grand STANDING” around elephant poo” to begin to find out what happened ?
It reminds me of an earlier, goofy Kilian/ Locher tale (2000) which we had to call the Re-enactors (as the Authors forgot, in near predictable style, to provide a NAME for the vIllain) but the story focus seemed more on the City like a Travelogue on Wasington DC and their buildings. In this Circus one too, nothing HAPPENS it’s only the costumed Freaks and the Animals on show, Day in and Day out. Excellent backdrop for a start but thats like your kid buying a Molly Cyrus CD with 10 cuts, but EVERY one (excitingly?), is a repeat of the same tune
The only thing to ease the boredum is Matthew’s promise of something really BIG to come on Sunday, October 4. That’s a bit “puzzeling” as he and Jeff have always told us it’s mandated that SUNDAY must be a recap of Monday to Saturday ?
So what can be NEW ?
But say what you will about his posting style and opinions. Anywhere Matthew goes there’s always been a flurry of great excitement, often under a “following” clowd of controvosy. He comes (or returns) like a sort of modern day Joe.Btfsplk, I’m sure, well meaning .. but (?)
Well, people learn from past experiences (we hope?) and this time I’m sure, particularly mindful of the recent General Bullmoose strictures, he’ll be as loving and cuddly as an Al Capp Shmoo (?)
As the great man said after a “sob” — “The secret of how to live without resentment or embarrassment in a world in which I was different from everyone else. was to be indifferent to that difference”

So, assuming that the world is rent asunder on Oct. 4th, and He Who Must Not Be Mocked takes over the strip, anyone wanna bet what happens to this forum? Will those of us who have dared question or even criticize the works of DL be forever banished from posting? Will the forum reflect the Twilight Zone episode with Billy Mumy & Cloris Leachman? Say nice things or else be sent to the cornfield? Will previous negative or humorous comments be removed? Will Orwell be spinning in his grave? Will bassmanbob, Grokenstein, et al become unpersons? I have a very bad feeling that this may be the case. Since the Supreme Ego earlier this year stomped out of here angrily because GoComics and Liam would not enforce all of the above that His return indicates He will indeed be ascending the throne. And this forum will sound like a Mac & Tosh commentary.

I;m truly sorry both bassmanbob, now Grok and then LelandReport seem to be all leaving. Sad ! A real pity ! Somewhere 2 or 3 people will be smiling (even laughing triumphantly) because they think their persistence in a distorted “LOCO”. adulation has WON out — driven you all OFF the board.
Don’t DO that ! Keep coming back. The board won’t be the same without your insight and unique personalities.
I think Liam ought to realize that much of the problem arises from ONE person, even back on the old TMS board. The regaling of posters here, flaying them and their valid comments on the strip with uncomplimentary discriptive adjectives and derision. It’s human nature to defend your position. In contentious exchanges, posters will go “over the line” periodically
In local parlance a good question is – “WHO pelt the first BLOW ?” (Nobody KNOW ??)
It’s easy to recall a shocking display, a “taste” of the ROOT cause, only a few months ago.

Grokenstein - let the force of humor be with you. I hope it is not the last of you, because your are a lot more entertaining then Dick and Co.

Blasphemy! Madness! Grok’s comments constituted approx. 39% of the reason I watch this strip at all!
Today’s strip is strong by its current standards, but it needs to do better than that. Is it really that hard to put matching eyes on a face? Or at least, closer to matching than this?
Watch the end of the world as we know it, Oktoberfest Quatro.

The full name is “Grokstein”. Looks like you are right. I’ve looked almost TWO weeks back and his earlier posts have all been “WIPED” – just not there !
That means he either did it himself OR Liam edited out EVERYTHING he EVER said !
SAD !

Well I’m still enjoying things. Even if Mr. Ringmaster doesn’t have a nose half the time. Even if the tiger looks like it was traced from a Halloween decoration. Even if the Halloween tiger appears to be standing on an enormous marshmallow. I’m going to tough it out and stay.
Who’s with me?

Hey man, how could they take out Grok like that? He was the best post here, every day.

Mr. Sydney, I no make sense of this. I greatly enjoy reeding all comics. Dick tracy is very good fun. Why nice people like mr. Grokstein be made to leave. is not all people is able to make feelin known. why some seem to able be say what they want and not become in trouble? It seem very unfair.
